I have booked accommodation in Granada for a few nights on 27th Dec with the intention of taking the kids skiing there. Has anyone been there to ski before? Any tips on where to hire the gear or which ski school to go to? Will we need to book lift passes etc in advance. We were unable to get accommodation in the resort itself as it was booked up hence the stay in Granada!

Hi SKT
I haven't got any info I'm afraid but if anyone out there has please let us know as I'd also be interested in a little winter break.
The snow capped mountains looked magnificent from the window of the plane yesterday as I flew back to the UK :-)

I stayed over for 2 nights last Christmas with my family and managed to find a hotel in the resort. A bit pricey but excellent quality. There are plenty of shops to hire equipment and very good value compared to France & Austria! Lift passes worked out at £20 a day for adults and around £13 for a child. There can be very long queues for passes in the mornings, particulary at weekends so try to arrive early. Thereare plenty of shops and restaurants with an inviting bavarian feel about the resort. Amazingly, it was around 14o and clear blue skies one day but the next was more windy with only one lift in operation all day so check weather reports before you leave your hotel! _______________________

Hi,
If anybody else is out there interesting in skiing in the Sierra Nevada and looking for a cheaper alternative place to stay, we have a house in a village just north of Granada - now advertised on the eyeonspain website under inland properties - please feel free to check it out!

Hi,
We would also be interested in skiing in Sierra Nevada. What age do they start ski school at. Our little boy is 3. Do the instructors speak good English. How much are the group lessons. Is March a good time to go. Does anyone know any good websites to book accomodation around the ski lifts or nearby. I found one or two but their nightly rate was very expensive. How long is the drive from Granada and Malaga to the lifts. Are the road conditions good if there is heavy snow. Would we need ski chains on the car.
Thanks

Hi there,
I'm a big snowboarding fan and go quite a few times every year.
The best time of year is end of January going into February really. The best times is when it chucks it down with rain really. If it's bucketing down with rain on the coastal area's, then it should be bucketing down with snow on the mountains.
The best place to stay is in Granada really. The mountain itself is quite expensive and does not really have the amenities that Granada does. It's only a 20 minute drive from Granada to Sierra Nevada. You can ski during the day and then go out to shops and restaurants at night.
From Malaga should be around 2 hours really at a good pace and then 20 minutes to Sierra Nevda.
In regards to hotels. The internet is the best bet. Hotels.com and such.
If you need any further help, please do not hesitate to conact me in this forum or directly.
Regards and Happy New Year
