We have just received notification that we require to pay Non resident tax.  Our solicitor has worked this out to be around 12 euros each as there are  three of us who own the property but he wants 120 euros plus vat from each of us for completing the form for us from the time we bought the property on Condado in August 2008 until December 2008.  Does anoyone else have experience of completing this form themselves and paying the local Council what we owe?  Any advice would be appreciated as we think the cost charged by our solicitor is rather excessive.

if its the same tax it is quite simple?  payed that many different types over the year?

anyway, we received a notice and appointment in our post box in october to pay this tax, there are 3 of us and the bill was 29.50 euro each. i was 3 weeks late for the appointment but they didnt seem to mind as they had hundreds of duplicates there, still not payed

take the notice to the council offices in alhama, hand it over to the lady at the reception, she will find the duplicate give her the money, she gives you a receipt job done, if you take your bank account details she will set up a DD for next years payment .i will try to find the address in the morning if i remember, it is very easy to find, two streets north of the police station and is a small square full of coffee shops,

busy at the moment so remind me in the morning and i will find address, i also saved sat nav co -ords,

do it yourself, i dont think there is a rush to pay it so long as you do?

cheers ant

Hi

We paid this by simply taking the form to the Cam bank then they also set it up as a direct debit to be paid yearly.

Hi Linda

I believe that Ant is referring to the local IBI Tax (Council Tax).  I use John at www.spanishtaxforms.co.uk to sort out my Non-Resident's tax.  His charges are very reasonable - £19.95 per property (no matter how many owners), and £10 per person to take the completed forms to the bank for payment if required.  He is based here in the UK, and all payments can be made in £sterling.

Hope this helps,

Peter

p.s. He advertises on this website sometimes.

Hi,  I don't think that I would be inclined to worry or even pay a professional to take care of this for you.  We have had a place in Alicante district since 2003 and have not yet paid  tax.  We will be doing so in the next couple of months, after spending a lot of time worrying at it and checking it out with our solicitor.  The best advice is to do it yourself, but for God's sake keep a copy of the receipt.

Ken

Hi all,

Better to pay taxes when due, big problems long term particularly if you wish to sell.  I use John at Spanish Tax Forms.  Well woth the nominal fee.

I know how much we have to pay (a massive 12.42 each 3 of us) but where do I pay this or will the bank do this for us?

Your help is very much appreciated

Linda

Your  IBI (Council Tax) can be paid directly to the Town House in Alhama de Murcia.  Your Non-Residents tax has to be paid at the tax office, as far as I am aware the nearest tax office to us is in Lorca.  As far as I know you are required to pay your IBI tax and take the receipt along with your ORIGINAL NEI certificates to the tax office.  I do not think that they accept your Non-Residents tax if you have not paid your local IBI tax.  You can organise both payments to be made via your bank, again you must have your IBI notification slip and your ORIGINAL NEI documents to register at the tax office.  As I stated earlier I use John at Spanish Taxes, saves alot of hassle at a fair price, your pertol to Lorca alone will be more costly than John, and you do not have to leave the big comfy chair.

Hi Linda

Try to contact them asap as (like with all taxes the world over) there is a fine for not paying on time (deadline 31st December).  I'm not sure of the level of the fine (20 - 50%?).

Our solicitor only let us know on 23rd December that we were due to pay 12.41 euros for 2008.  I suppose if we are fined for paying this late it wont be that much (I hope)
