Why are lawyers demanding high fees, because they know it will be a long drawn out affair with little chance of success, so they want the security of covering their expenses.

Hi Julia Anne,
I know what you are saying about us agreeing but you now see I am not a monster we would proberly hit it off under different circumstance. But I must say it is better this way than trying to slag each other off. I tried Roys link but that doesn't seem to work either. You Know we might be able to get those agent solicitors under consumer protection laws and maybe even under their rulling legal Bodies I am still spitting nails over their role in this whole situation. As they were suppose to protect our interests as their clients. If we could prove criminal intent then the prosecutors pay for the case to go ahead not us/
now there is a thought

FIN in a  a nutshell yes. They know from past experience how each stage could go and want to ensure that if we get nothing back they still get paid it would be the same in any country.  Not wishing to slag of the Spanish legal system  but it is notoriously slow and laborious. I am dealing with lawyers right now in Scotland and am astounded at the costs for something fairly straight forward. Sometimes I wish I was a lawyer and then I remember how rubbish I would be at it as I like people too much and would feel sorry for their plight and not want to charge.  JA

There may be fixed fees for the process, much like any other Country, but aren't these for guidance?
I didn't think any Government or Society can dictate terms of fees for a private practice, as each practice has different overheads (It is called business).
The professor of law  at Alicante Uni. may have made a statement, much like in UK, professors of a specialised topic or subject may make a statement, which in theory (which is what they are familiar with), it may be all well and good, but in practice it is different.
Many professors of busines have no experience of business.
Architects fees are fixed, but expenses, costs and overheads still have to be taken into account.
The bottom line is if you don't like their fees, you don't use them and never forgetting, you get what you pay for.
Peanuts for monkeys.
So what professional advice (any profession) will 600€ get you?
PI is not cheap, staffing is not cheap, rent is not cheap, utilities are not cheap, communications are not cheap.

Don't  know about that but in Scotland we have a system for regulating lawyers The Law Society of Scotland .They set standards in charging for necessary legal expenses for standard things like sorting out estates etc .I suppose it is just a guideline but you can complain to them about over charging shoddy legal services etc and they get results. and can strike lawyers off for serious offences . I think pricing must be on a sliding scale because of course some are more expensive than others depending on reputation etc I do believe you only get what you pay for as with all services.

Hi all

Faster than a speeding bullet.....is it a plane, is it a bird....no its briando in spandex and a helmet.....and that dont happen often believe me.

The Alicante law pricing structure is what my lawyer has applied to my case, and hes not a monkey...hes pretty good so far.  Its not dirt cheap, but it does depend on the amount of work done and how far the case goes, so its progressive.

I read back over some of the last few posts, I have to say i dont get that gloomy......it is an administration, voluntary.  Darren knows the market has gone down by a large percentage but its not dead, he has said as much.

When big companies go to the wall...it does leave room, so dont despair,,,,,,I am more concerned about the corruption around the Spanish build market myself.  I want to trust the process but i find it difficult.  If it comes out of administration as a going concern....we will be lucky, but its possible eh.

The administration have to be fair and honest.....dont they?.....if not we may all get shafted.

Best wishes, Brian

Hi all,

my lawyer has charged me a provision funds of 600 euros only at the moment since he is dealing with a big group of investers from Ireland and on a group basis. He echoed what Briando mentioned about the amount of work that will be required.

Please PM me if you want his details.

Adios GrantB
