A320 Mediterranean crash.
Thursday, November 27, 2008

A plane with seven people aboard crashed into the Mediterranean Sea on Thursday, a French regional government official told CNN. The Airbus A320 Air New Zealand jet was on a training flight when the crash occurred about 5 p.m. (11 a.m. ET), said the official at the Maritime Prefecture in Toulon, France.

There were no immediate reports of survivors, but rescue efforts involving French navy vessels and a helicopter had been launched. Floating debris had been located, the official said. The test flight took off from Perpignan in southern France, the official said. A civilian vessel saw the crash take place off the coast near Perpignan.

What the Stewardess "should" have said.
Tuesday, November 25, 2008

Here is an example of a few allegedly true “one-liners” uttered by American flight attendants.

  • For those of you who have not ridden in an automobile since 1967 I will now demonstrate how to operate the seat belt.
  • In the unlikely event that we need to use the under-seat life jackets or seat cushions, they will be yours to keep.
  • We are bringing the beverage/food cart out, please keep your hands, legs, elbows, noses and any other PROTRUDING ORGANS to yourself
  • If you’re traveling with a child, or someone who is acting like a child, put the mask over your face first and then put the child’s mask on. If you’re traveling with more than one child, pick your favorite.
  • As you may have read in the news yesterday, American Airlines has announced this route will be eliminated. We know you have a choice in air travel and I look forward to seeing you on another airline.

Bird Strikes (Ryanair for example).
Thursday, November 13, 2008

In case you were wondering how such a minor sounding event can cause such an incident, here is a Wikipedia link explaining just how serious and sometimes catastrophic a bird strike can be.  I would say this was a lucky escape.

Boeing 787 will not fly in 2008
Friday, November 7, 2008

Citing the extended work stoppage of the 57-day IAM strike, Boeing says the 787 Dreamliner will not accomplish its goal of flying by the close of the fourth quarter of 2008.

Boeing adds that it will not set a new target date for first flight or first delivery while a full assessment of the programme's post-strike status remains ongoing. Boeing's last schedule called for delivering the first 787 to launch customers All Nippon Airways in the third quarter of 2009.

This latest delay is the fifth slip for the first flight of Dreamliner One since September 2007, and suggests the event could occur almost two years after the original schedule target.
