Bird Strikes (Ryanair for example).

In case you were wondering how such a minor sounding event can cause such an incident, here is a Wikipedia link explaining just how serious and sometimes catastrophic a bird strike can be. I would say this was a lucky escape.

when in the RAF, bird strikes were the single most troublesome problem for the fast jets. A bird strike at Mach 1 makes a hell of a mess!! We used to have at least 2 or 3 emergencies declared per week due to a bird going through the cockpit or being sucked into an engine.
