Hi Tom — that’s a big step, but Costa Brava is a fantastic place to raise a family. In the L’Estartit area there’s consistent demand for skilled trades, especially renovations, property maintenance, and landscaping for holiday homes. First, make sure your paperwork is sorted — if you hold an EU passport you can work freely, but if not you’ll need proper authorization before starting anything. Reaching out directly to local construction firms, estate agents, and property managers can open doors faster than waiting on job boards. Many second-home owners value reliable, English-speaking tradesmen with broad skills.

For housing, start checking Idealista early since good rentals move quickly. Local town halls can guide you on public schools and registration steps. Once you’re settled, small comforts help the transition — setting up app YouCine para TV at home can make those first evenings feel familiar while everything else is new. Wishing you and your family the best with the move.

Reading through everyone’s experiences really highlights how lifestyle choices shape where we feel most at ease. One thing I noticed while living in a quieter coastal town was how small home details started to matter more than city convenience. When life slows down, you naturally focus on making your space feel calm and personal—things like natural light, simple interiors, and thoughtfully chosen wall decor can really reflect that relaxed Spanish way of living. It’s interesting how the right environment, both outside and inside the home, plays such a big role in overall quality of life.

I’d agree that pre-booking is usually the smarter move, especially if you want peace of mind after landing. Having things sorted in advance saves time, helps you avoid higher walk-up prices, and lets you compare options properly. I’ve found that this approach works not just for car rentals in Europe, but also for attractions when traveling elsewhere. For example, when I was in Dubai, planning ahead for major sights instead of deciding on the spot made the trip much smoother—using BurjTicket helped me avoid queues and manage my schedule better. In general, whether it’s transport or experiences, a bit of advance planning really reduces stress while traveling.

It does sound like the 3% retention refund, and unfortunately delays of this length aren’t unheard of. That said, being ignored by the agent for months is a red flag. I’d suggest contacting the solicitor or gestor who handled the sale directly to confirm whether the refund claim was actually submitted and to request proof (modelo 211/210). If needed, a different gestor can usually take over the follow-up with the tax office and may also advise whether it’s worth closing the bank account and switching the refund to another payment method.
