Hi Georgia

Before you call out anyone and start incurring costs perform a backup of the system which cures quite a few problems and takes about 10 minutes.

To do this remove the power lead from the back of the box and leave out for approx 30 seconds.

on the top of your sky box you will see some buttons normally set in a circular pattern. One of them usually towards the top of the circle is the " back up " button. ( note this is not the same as the back up button on the sky remote )

You need to hold the back up button down as you replace the power lead. Keep holding the back up button down for approx 20 seconds until the lights come on, on the front of the box. At this point you can release the back up button.

You will then see a message on your screen along the lines of " your system is downloading software and this will take approx 10 minutes "

When this is completed leave the box for about 5 minutes before turning it back on.

Hopefully this will cure your problem and should be performed roughly every 6 months anyway.

It will be a minimum of 20 hours actual driving time from Calais. Depending on how many hours you want to drive each day will govern the number of overnight stops.

I have done it with one stop ( Biarritz ) and 2 stops ( Bordeaux and Madrid )

The Vamichelin website not only shows you the different routes available but also calculates tolls and shows hotels on your preferred route.

I have been eating at Peggottys for about 4 years now. The fish and chips is the best I have ever eaten anywhere, so good in fact that I no longer eat it in the UK.

I can also personally recommend the spit roast chicken and the southern fried chicken. I have been told that the burgers, chicken burgers and scampi are great too.

The staff and service also very good and friendly and at the moment they have rolled back their prices to 2006 levels.

My mouth is watering as I am sat here in England looking forward to my next visit.

I agree with La Venezia. It is in the road with the horse and carriages down towards the sea on the left hand side. There are large barrels outside used as tables.

Also, there is a large underground car park down the first turning on the left, before you get to the restaurant.

Try the patatas bravas, unique, and best I've ever had

 Hi Pat

I did this trip in 2 days arriving home last night, with 2 dogs. The best website by far is viamichelin. If you want to do the journey in 2 days from Calais I would suggest getting to Biarritz on the first day. If you want to do the trip in 3 days I would suggest stopping over in Poitiers and Aranda del Duero ( an hour north of Madrid ).

Plan your trip on the website with the route planner and it will suggest hotels at your destination point. These can be filtered for dog friendliness and directions to the actual hotels can be obtained.

On the way out from UK I stayed in Bordeaux which was a long first day and Madrid, which was a pain due to the traffic. On the way back I stayed in Anglet, which is next door to Biarritz ( by the airport )

If you would like recommendations on specific hotels just drop me a pm.

Hope this helps
