We have just bought a very small sailing dingy with a towing trailer which we plan to take down to our Spanish house and leave there. We are also planning to buy a car to tow it and leave that there too. We visit the house a few times each year and are not Spanish residents. So - will we need to re register the car in Spain - I guess yes, and if so how quickly does that need to be done? Also will we need to register the trailer (under 750kgs) - again I guess so! Anyone done this? How do we do it and roughly how much will it cost? The car we are planning on buying will be worth about £1500 and the trailer is quite old - don't know anything about it as yet, except it works!

In May I saw a solicitor in Los Alcazares to put in motion the inheritance of my mum's house, as she died in January. Her Spanish will left it to me and also the funds in her Spanish bank account. I provided all the necessary paperwork, paid the solicitor and received an emailed document which I believe is the title deeds in my name. Since then I have contacted them several times about receiving the actual document  (my mother had one, which she received in 2007 after inheriting the house from my stepfather). They say it has been sent off somewhere and until they get it back they can't close the bank account either. Is this correct as I am now paying 2 sets of bank charges, one for my mum's account and one for my own. Also if I could transfer the funds from hers to mine it would save me the trouble of transferring any more funding from UK for a while.Should I contact the solicitor again??

I have recently inherited a small house. I need to make a Spanish will leaving it to my husband or in the event of his death, my son. Can I just go to the notary to do this or must I involve a solicitor? If I can use the notary will I need to take a translator - I don't speak Spanish. Thanks.

Thank you for your replies. Firstly, I didn't think I had to sort the property out before informing the bank - I plan to do both things on my visit to Spain at the start of next month. The reason I haven't acted on either before is, simply, I haven't had the opportunity to come to Spain and don't have anyone in Spain who can act for me.

I have found a lawyer and have already forwarded information to them to enable them to start to sort out the inheritance of the house. I fully realise the tax situation and that it should be paid in 6 months - not much I can do about either of those things - if I have to pay interest, so be it. My mother wasn't a Spanish resident - the house is purely for holidays, so she didn't have any pension paid into the bank account. It was only used to pay standing orders, which is why I didn't want to have it closed before I could arrange to have another opened in my name. I am seeing the lawyer as soon as I arrive in Spain and will move on from there.

I am sure that I'm not the first person to not be able to sort all this stuff out straight away when the person who dies doesn't live in Spain and neither do I!! in a perfect world it would all have gone as Campasol says it should, but hindsight is a wonderful thing!

Thread: Another question - sorry!
