Hi, is your internal ceiling a false ceiling( independant to the casting of the structure, if so there should be a void between the two, haveing used thermal imageing many times in the past as a firefighter, I`m doubtful as to whether you will be able to diferentiate between a damp surface and one that has water running over it when the image initally has to penetrate a dense object.

My initial suggestion would be smart phone compatable endoscope you can pick these up for around £20 on ebay uk this will allow you to drill small 10mm ish holes around the effected area insert the flexible illuminated camera and view the images on your smart phone.

Hope this helps

Gary

I worked the cut off point for ourselves driving down v flying and car hiring, to be 3 weeks, if we would be in Spain any longer than 3 weeks (excluding school holidays) it was cheaper to drive down and use my own car than to fly and hire.

With regards to leaving the central heating on un the UK when you are gone. My Mother fell foul of this when she went to Benidorm for 6 weeks in Jan Feb, many years ago, the boiler packed up even though I visited the house every week, It still did not stop £20k of water damage that the insurance would not pay up on. Personally I`d turn the water off at the mains and drain all the pipework down including central heating, it`s the only way you can be sure. If you have a conventional boiler set up you need to leave the mains turned on to top up the header tank for the central heating, not sure about these new fangled combi boilers.

I`d also get someone I trust to stay a couple of nights a month to satisfy the insurance company.

On a side note which may be of use to someone. Last year we drove down to our place and stayed for 6 weeks on the way back the car overheated in the Pyrenees when I called the breakdown cover I had, the first question they asked was on what date did I leave the UK the policy was an annual policy but in small print only 30 days at a time, so I lied, eventually got recoved to the nearest Skoda garage in Huesca at 7pm the manager filled the car with antifreeze ran it for half an hour said the fan was on it`s way out but if we drove the mountains with the heater on full it should not overheat again, he would`nt take any money, we drove through the night and made the ferry.

Hi, we take our 2 staffies by road to Spain every year, we get the ferry from Dover to Calais and stay in the cheap F1 hotels which we have always found to be clean and have suited our needs they are 30-40€ a night and accept one dog per room, you can book in advance or out of peak season just turn up, even out of hours they have like a service till in the wall where you can pay by card and you are then given authorisation codes to gain access to the front door and your room.

We have never been asked for paperwork for the dogs other than re entering the UK. if you are going to touristy areas it`s handy to have all the paperwork with you especially if you utilise the Playa canina (dog beaches)

On return to the UK the dogs need to be given an oral tablet and something like frontline which is put on the neck, check the date that the vet writes in the passport as we almost fell foul of an incorrect date written into the passport. Once you have had this done you are able to re-enter the UK between 24-120 hours after the pet passport entry.

We have found a massive difference in price for the re-entry treatment, in a touristy flashy Engish speaking vets in Spain we paid 100€ for one dog, from recommendation of a spanish neighbour we used the local vet in our nearest village and paid 33€ total for 2 dogs. she did not speak English and we spoke little spanish so I just wrote down what I needed to ask her and she used a translator on her laptop, in susequent years we have learnt more spanish and she has learnt more english as she realised there is a market from us Brits and her prices are still low.

Good Luck

Gary

Hi, I just had a similar problem with Sabadell, I kept being told that my connection had timed out, I contacted my bank head office and I was told that it had been blocked by the opening branch, apparently it was tied into some recent communication I had with my bank with them requesting copies of passports and additional personal information this was something to do with the prevention of money laundering, which was strange as I use my other account for that, anyway they emailed and text my UK mobile with details to reset the password they even phoned me until they got hold of me to make sure I could get back online, which was nice.

Protective clothing has come on in leaps & bounds in the last few years, leather is no longer the only option, there is some great stylish protective clothing that look just like normal clothes, as for helmets as my bikes for the past 20 years have been off road based (in an effort to slow me down) a moto x helmet gives good protection and air flow around the face, a pair of sunglasses also help keep your speed down, anything over 60 makes your eyes water. Looking forward to roosting some of the dirt trails around Murcia,

Old enough to know better, young enough not to care.
