Bikes stolen

I don't think you'll be seeing them again unfortunately if the locks were cut off. Sounds as though it was NOT just an opportunist theft. They came prepared!

I was going to buy some bikes on my next visit. Not sure if I should bother now. It really makes me cross that people can do this. What about the security did they not see anything!!!

My advice to anyone would be don't leave them on public view and you will be fine. Leave them in the trastero at all times.

Theft is unfortunately human nature, especially in times of economic crisis. A good bike can be sold for probably €50 which when you are out of work, as many are in Spain, will feed a family of 4 for a week.

Lots of people cycle round the resort - how are security to know that the person on the bike has just stolen it?

My mountain bike was also stolen from my terrace, it was chained and was also secured with a heavy duty cable bond, my wallet was also stolen from a zip locked bag that I was carrying around the saturday market at los narejos nr the airport. Simple message is to put your bikes away out of sight when you are not using them as it's a nightmare at the police station to report it.Yes, there are lots of thieves about at the moment all waiting for us to put our guards down. Oh apparrently its also not legal in spain to cut their hands off if you catch them ( last sentence edited by wife )

Theft from bags / handbags at the market is a common occurence I'm afraid. Not just at the Los Narejos one but any market. Here in Almoradi where we live it is the norm for the handbag thieves to be on the prowl.

My advice - wear a proper money belt that you can tuck inside your trousers or a bum bag with the pouch round the front.

If you HAVE to take a handbag then wear it over your shoulder - crossed over your body - so that it sit on your tum. And keep one hand on it at all times!

Times are hard in Spain so anyone who looks prosperous is a sitting duck I'm afraid.
