motoring in spain

I am planning (with my partner) to move to our house in Murcia next year. We are going to buy a LHD drive car in the UK and drive it over with our stuff. Does anyone know what we need to do once we are in Spain about registering the car to Spanish plates? Also what is the procedure for insurance, MOT, road tax etc. Thanks a lot. Louise

Hi Everyone

My partner and I am moving to Spain next March from the UK.  We already have a house in Murcia.  We are planning on buying a LHD car in the UK and driving it across with our belongings etc.  Once in Spain can anyone please let me know what we do and were we go to register the car with Spanish plates.  Also what is the procedure for car insurance, MOT, road tax etc.

Thanks a lot in advance for alll your help.

Hi Louise, we are moving over hopefully this summer and if we can we are going to buy a LHD car that is all legal and on Spanish plates, in the Uk rather than have the hassle of getting one when we're there. If you buy a LHD in the UK on Uk plates I think its quite alot of money to get it put onto Spanish plates and then you also have the 7% import tax to pay. There are several places in the UK that sell them ready to go. You wouldn't want to buy too soon though as you have the 6 month limitation to deal with. Good luck! :)
