Fight for your rights

The latest news on legal matters interesting for expats and foreign investors

Love to fight for your rights
Thursday, May 2, 2013 @ 11:57 AM

When I decided to study Laws and become a solicitor, it was not for any matter of family tradition. I'm the first solicitor in my family.

And though I knew the way ahead was not very easy, I firmly wanted to do it, because I love two things: create things and fight for Justice. So, what could be better than being a solicitor and create my own Firm?

After six years in a big Firm, I founded in 2000 my own Firm, Lucas&Asociados Abogados, which now has 5 solicitors from all practice areas.

My background, knowledges and skills made me opt for Corporate Law and Assistance to Foreign Investors, which are my two specialities in the Firm, that sometimes come to the same (i.e., assistance to foreign investors affected by an insolvency proccess of the developer).

Though we worked a bit on independent conveyancing, it's been lately, with the bankrupcy of promoters caused by the financial crisis, when our work assisting foreign investors seriously increased.

Our actual activity is centered on assisting them in bankrupcy procceses, cancelling purchase contracts, executing Bank guarantees, suing banks for failing in providing BG, etc.

And, believe me, I love to fight for your rights. Each victory against a Bank, a promoter, each time we call a client to let him/her know we have recovered their money, we are happy. In those moments, I love my job.

To be honest, as we are not a big Firm, it's been very important to be in touch with other Firms and colleagues working in similar cases and to exchange knowledge, points of view and rulings with them. This has made our work easier and more effective.

Another important thing for me is to know the clients' worries, to be able to offer them solutions. And the EOS forums, in which we participate several time ago, have helped us to understand better our clients' needs and worries.

Now, we want to step forward and be present through our blog, to share information and points of view. We want to be helpful.

So, here we go.

Thanks for being there
