Vulture in Manilva
Tuesday, November 2, 2010 @ 1:13 PM

I knew that the town hall has been trying to get rid of some of the people working there but employing vultures to do their dirty work for them....well, I've seen it all now!

Vulture in Manilva

As you can see, the weather here today is gorgeous!

And by the way, if you've never been up close with a vulture....it's massive.  See the guys on the roof top about to run for it as it took off again.

Hi Justin, You and I have recently become friends and I enjoy Eye On Spain very much. I have a town house in El Mojon Nr San Pedro del Pinatar on the Costa Caleda. I love bird watching and have seen so many birds especialy as we live in a conservation area. I have not yet spotted a vulure, are they regular visiters or do you think it is an ascapee? Eagles around the mountains but vultures?
Keep up your good work mate and thanks.

Hi John

Thanks for that.

It's the first time I've ever seen a vulture in this area! I think it's unheard of. I can only assume it escaped from a zoo not far away from here.

Very scary to see it so close though, it was absolutely huge!

I recall a couple of years ago while living in the Belgian Ardennes(yes, we DID move to Mojacar to escape the freezing winters) I was not believed on relating a view of a vulture over our house.Kites were frequent as well as geese, but vultures??? My neighbours' disbelief was curtailed when the TV news announced that a flock of Spanish vultures had flown to Belgium 'cos there were no longer carcasses lying around on the Spanish fields.
True.
