Less than two days now before Richard & I return to Malaga & on to Nerja. My wife this time is staying home to look after her own business so I am off the leash. (Nah not really!!).  I have a super relationship with the owner of the apartment we are renting for a week, the hire car is sorted, boarding tickets printed (with correct details) & everything is buttoned down as far as I know.

On Thursday morning we meet an Estate Agent in Nerja & look around the immediate area for properties, (remember we are looking for 2 places, one for Richard & of course the other for my wife & myself).

On Friday we travel up to Acequias to meet with another agent to look around that area, to include Beznar, Murchas, Pinos & Melegis. We visualize that this will take up the whole day.

I have taken the advice of cleverer people than me on this forum & have kept back the weekend to look again at not only the properties we initially liked, but to look at the surrounding areas, looking for any anomalies.

Also to pinch a few hours of "holiday"

On Monday we go back to to meet another really nice sounding guy to look around Sedella, El Borge I'm certain he will be as good as he sounds etc. The properties on the internet look perfect for our needs.

IF we don't have anything by then, (Heaven forbid my hopes are dashed!) on Tuesday we travel again around the the north of Axarquia to further survey places.

We then return to Birmingham, England on Tuesday night, hopefully with dates firmly fixed for when we will return to Spain on a  permanant basis.

What a buzz, the adrenalin is certainly running high.

Good luck Gerald I wish I was doing the same thing. Really dreary in the UK at present and forecast much colder later this week.
If you can, please take some photos of what propertys you see. It makes all the difference. Thanks.

Good luck Gerald! I love it around Nerja. It is probably quite a bit more expensive than the other areas, but they do say location is everything and with the market as it is you could get something great for a good price - the only downside of the town is that it can be quite tricky to park.
We often go for a German breakfast in Torrox Costa on the promenade. If you get a chance, do that - can't beat it - loads of meats, cheese, toast, coffee, orange juice etc. (I'm getting hungry thinking about it)

Thanks John & eggcup,
two useful bits. I will take my camera, & the German breakfast in Torrox Costa sounds good.

Fingers and toes crossed for you Gerry! You'll need lots of photos of each house, ALWAYS starting with one exterior shot so you know which is which later on. And take copious notes. Not all agents give you "particulars" that you usually get in the UK so take a notepad.

Most importantly, if none feels exactly right, don't let the pressure of wanting to buy, pressure you into buying the wrong thing. Conversely, if you DO find the one that feels like "home", put in a silly offer - about a third below the asking price is about right, and be ready to negotiate.

I hope your apartment has internet - we want to follow the day-by-day updates!

Oh l forgot to say - you normally have to put down a cash deposit THE SAME DAY as your offer is accepted. Normally about €2000. Bear in mind you can only withdraw either €300 or €500 per day from one account. I had access to two current accounts and my business account, and took the max out of those the day l viewed and made my offer, and was able to get the other half necessary the next morning and took it to the lawyer.

Other practicalities - if you DO make an offer, you'll need a bank account and a lawyer straight away, so leave some time on Thursday or Friday morning to identify both these somewhere in Nerja (ask the forums for recommendations?). My lawyer took me to Malaga for the NIE process, included in her very reasonable fee.

That's valuable information Tamara, thank you This is an area I have missed.
Amazing you think you've covered everything then something else pops up.
Don't know about internet in the apartment but there are loads of "hotspots".
I'm only gonna rent on this occasion so maybe I will not require a solicitor.

How exciting! I am excited for you and Tamara as usual has given you good advice! If you do need a lawyer I met a really nice one at the 'A place in the Sun' exhibition at the NEC a few weeks back. He is based in Malaga, is English but obviously speak Spanish and included in their 0.9% (1500 min) fee they will help set up a bank account and sort your NIE numbers. I think thats good! I think they will also help you with insuring your property. Since our house has been on the market we've had several viewings, a couple of silly unacceptable offers but all is good I think! Can't wait to hear how you and Richard get on!
All the best, Louise :)
