Mad About Spanish Food

I'm really passionate about Spanish food. With this blog, I hope to pass on the passion.

Aberdeen Angus sirloin steak for supper - courtesy of TKO Radio!

Okay, Aberdeen Angus isn't Spanish food, but hey, I won a competition on TKO Radio today, and the prize was a 10 Euro voucher to spend at Quesada Butchers at Dona Pepa on the Torrevieja Road. We decided to treat ourselves to two sirloin steaks with our unexpected windfall, but seeing as we live in Spain, and we won the prize on Spanish radio, I decided to give it a Spanish touch.

I marinated the steak for about half an hour in olive oil, freshly ground black pepper and a pinch or two of smoked paprika. Then I cooked it in a heavy bottomed frying pan, and when the steak was ready, I removed it and fried some sliced onions, courgettes and mushrooms in the juices, then added a little tomato frito. The result was a distinctively flavoured Aberdeen Angus steak, with a Mediterranean twist. To extend the Spanish connection, I served it all with patatas bravas.

I don't know whether it tasted so good because of my Mediterranean twist, or because the steak was a freebie, but I do know it's the best steak I've had in a long time! I do love Spanish food, but when it comes to steak, it's hard to beat a good old Aberdeen Angus, isn't it?
