Car Rental in Spain

Beware of the fuel policy when renting cars in Spain

Car Rental in spain
Sunday, March 21, 2010 @ 7:20 PM

We have just returned from Spain - a short break for 4 days.  We booked a car in England through a company called Holiday Autos.  We have used this company for many years and have always been very pleased with their service and have no reason to complain now.  However the car was booked with Record Go.  Although their terms and conditions for fuel stated that rentals over 4 days would be charged for a full tank of petrol and also Holiday Autos terms and conditions for fuel stated that rentals over 5 days would be charged for a full tank of petrol.  I was charged for a full tank - 70 Euros.  I am sure that it does not cost that much to fill the tank.  I did challenge this on pick up but was told that it was Holiday Autos fault that they were charging me for a full tank.  Have contacted Holiday Autos and await their reply. For information I only used a quarter of a tank of fuel in my four day break.  Nice profit!!!

I have heard people say recently that the Spanish Rental companies are starting to make tourists pay for this full tank.  Please ensure that you check the terms and conditions of your rental company before buying!

Has anyone else had this problem.
