Car Hire - Gibraltar or La Linea?

When flying into Gibraltar any advice on car hire?  Is it better to hire in La Linea or Algeciras, even though it would be more convenient from Gib airport?   Am concerned at the possibility of holdups when taking the car back for a late morning flight if hired from Gib.   Got a good price with Monarch which is why I'm trying Gib this time as opposed to Malaga.  Advice much appreciated.

It really depends on your flight times. If you let us know I can probably advise better. Saying that, if you are just going to be in Spain then best to make sure your pick up in is La Linea. There are a couple of hire care places just across the border although I can't remember which companies they are. Maybe contact some of those with a desk at Gibraltar airport and see if you can pick up in La Linea. I'm sure it's possible. Justin

Arrival in Gib is 1100hrs and departure is 1200hrs with check-in 2 hrs. previous so will have to be in Gib by 0930hrs which is why I was worried about traffic.  I will be purely in Spain, so maybe La Linea will be best?  Will check out the operators as you suggest.  Thanks again.

To be honest, with those flight times you won't have too much of a problem with traffic.  I would allow 30 minutes for the queue going in though.

I  always hire a car in La Linea and find it very easy. Crown car hire is situated in the car park behind Mcdonalds so it is less than 5 minutes walk from the border. I would think this is better than taking a chance with the border Qs.
