Fortunately or unfortunately, we have plenty of furniture in storage in the US that we want to ship to Spain to furnish our new apartment. What documents are necessary to import this used furniture? Residence permit or not?

In theory you do not need residence but coming from the USA you may incur some kind of import duties. You should contact the US Consulate/Embassy and they should be able to clarify for you. Seems lousy as it is your already and it might be that if you can prove the furniture is your already and not new then it may not be the case. To be honest is it worth shipping over here - much furniture from the UK is entirely inappropriate here so that may be the case with stuff you plan to bring from the US. If it is valuable, is it antique? If so you may find the authorities think you are importing to sell - could find yourself going round in circles _______________________
