You have set yourself an enormous challenge. Murcia is one of the most deprived regions of Spain with a very high rate of unemployment. In January the tourist season is non-existent. Many qualified Spanish people get laid off after the summer and have to live on very low benefits.

Industrial agriculture is one of the main forms of employment in Murcia. It uses almost entirely illegal immigrant workers on starvation pay. In the tourist hot spots there may be bar work in July and August but not out of season. Building work may be possible but unless you have special skills you don’t stand a chance. The courier business is a closed shop.

To be honest I would rethink your plans unless you have a substantial capital sum available to tide you over for many months whilst you try to get established. So sorry to be negative but that's the reality.

Well put Mickeyfinn.

Symonjb, you don't say why you are coming, but you should think again.  The jobs you mention are few and far between and if there is a vacancy it will go to a local who speaks the language fluently and will accept the level of pay which is perhaps half or a third of what you might expect.  The cost of living is a bit cheaper but not that different to UK, so it's probably not a good career move.

Being positive is not easy, but I would say you only chance would be in one of the UK enclaves that are scattered through the area.  I wouldn't bother with websites as you don't often see jobs advertised, they don't need to, but just by walking round for a few days and meeting people you might get lucky.

Why Murcia? There are many other areas in Spain where you might find work but have a rethink! We know so many people who have tried what you want to do and have returned to the UK disappointed.

If you are set on coming, and you can't speak the language, then your only option is to find a niche in the ex-pat services market.  You WILL NEED a fair sized pot of walking around money in addition to your living expenses and fall back cash. £30k or something like in the first 18 months-especially if you fall into the "work interupted holiday mode" that so many fall into.

Be Lucky!

Look at the implications of Inheritance tax in Murcia and you might change your mind about living there!

It appears you have a lot of research to do
