My wife and I are considering taking early retirement and moving to the Mazarron/Cartagena area.

We have done a lot of research and we are coming to the area in May staying at the mazarron country club. One piece of good advice we have been given is to get in touch with a good local estate agent. This is great advice but how do I find a good local agent. This is hopefully where you can help. Can any of you recommend a local agent

Your choice of Cartagena/Mazarron seems good, but why limit yourself to one agent?

I would use someone like Rightmove http://www.rightmove.co.uk/overseas-property-for-sale/Costa-Calida.html?sortType=1&minPrice=150000&minBedrooms=2  to give a wider initial choice and visit a few different areas first.

If you're staying at the country club about 2 miles up the road from you will find the Camposol urbanization there are 6 estate agents on Camposol that cover the complete area .

.( Tip rent before you buy for about 3 months that will give you time to have a good look around the different areas it mite be you're dream to own a romantic looking farm house out in the middle of nowhere but in reality if you do not speak the Spanish language fluently you will have big problems  good luck ).

Try local Spanish agents - they will know of many properties both rented and for sale  that aren't advertised and are word of mouth only. Beware of a property being listed by more than one agent, as the price can vary. Good advice from Windtalker - once you buy, it wont be easy to sell if you don't like it and you do need to be here to do a transaction, it's too risky buying in Spain at arms-length.

Try Diego Diaz at La Pinilla Inmobiliaria  968 15 75 10  info@inmobiliarialapinilla.com Diego speaks English and he works with all the other Agents and Corredors  in the area. Good luck.

Have heard that coastal Bolnuevo, south of Mazarron, is a nice area.

Suggest you personally check, via www, any urbanisations/ places you may visit in the area to check for problems because REAs are in business to relieve you of your money ASAP. Being honest or truthful isn't necessarily part of the job description.

Bolnuevo is a really nice little town on the coast - very close to Mazarron Port and the mainly british Camposol urbanisation. Only drawback with Bolnuevo is the summer season - you can't move for tourists. There is a large mobile home park just off the main street and this is very popular in the season, so expect lots of 'snails' around the area.
