Does anyone have any bright ideas about how to get some decent Spanish TV channels in the UK?  A few years ago we had a satellite dish sorted out specifically for foreign channels and used to get TVE1, Canalsur and some others like Extremadura and Madrid TV (never needed the Cuba channel...), but gradually they've all disappeared - something to do with Astra??? (I'm not very technical).  The Spaniards in the UK must have something sorted; there's no way many of them could live without their telly.  Does anyone know what the solution is?

My mum lives in Wales and had an Astra satellite dish and box fitted.  She still gets many of the Spanish channels apart from TVE1 so not sure what's happened to yours.

Thanks Justin, Shane and Emma.  I will get onto it.  If anyone knows of any other channels we might be able to get in the UK, please let me know.  I'm particularly interested in channels with dramas, soaps etc., which I might be able to get the kids interested in, to keep up their Spanish.   They used to love 'Aguila Roja,' in particular.

Just took a look at it, Juansheet.  What a brilliant website.  I even found Aguila Roja.  To make my life complete, does anyone know if the technology is there yet to hook up a computer to the TV, so that one can watch things on a bigger screen?  Ideally I want us to watch films, series etc., as a family and in a way that if the kids are in the living room, they haven't got a choice other than watching the Spanish programme.  After five years of living back in the UK it is a struggle to keep  them willing to watch programmes in other languages.

Thanks again, Juan

(from prrrittty lady)

Gracias Juan.  Just checked with my son and he reckons he has one of these cables.  We'll try out later.  All the best.

Hi Eggcup.

Sorry I cannot help you with receiving spanish TV in the UK...but do be careful which streaming sites you use!

For example, the one you have been directed to, is not all as it seems.

The owner of this domain is trying to sell it   http://whois.domaintools.com/tvgratis.tv   and probably won't be able to!

The webhosts have prohibited deletion, updates and transfer :

ICANN Registrar:

DNC HOLDINGS, INC.
Created:
2006-06-24
Expires:
2013-06-24
Updated:
2012-05-10
Name Server:
NS1.MEDIATEMPLE.NET

NS2.MEDIATEMPLE.NET
Whois Server:
whois.directnic.com

Basically the owner cannot do much with this site...ask yourself why, before you start using it and most certainly DO NOT ENTER CREDIT/DEBIT CARD DETAILS for any reason.

It has an appalling bounce rate of 36%, the average viewer spends just 41 seconds on each page and just 2minutes on the site (so not watching films/programmes).    http://www.alexa.com/siteinfo/tvgratis.tv

As for a brilliant website, the website title scores 45%, meta description 36% and keywords 44%. THAT'S TERRIBLE!!

Unfortunately, GODADDY who are an excellent webhost, have had to BAN many sites, with very good reason.

Your choice which ones you choose to use...but I would check sites thoroughly, first.

Some hide a multitude of sins.

Hi Juan

Sorry, but I cannot recommend any myself. I do not use stream sites and have no need to. I watch very little TV at home/abroad. I suppose, if I felt the need like Eggcup, I would just pay for satellite or move to Spain  :)

Sorry I can be no help, in recommendations for streaming.

NIKKI

PS. If you ever want advice/information on websites, that, I can help with...LOL!

Unfortunately it's not that easy for all us just to move like that. When we are way we listen to KissFM. That streams too. We love it.

Gracias

Juan

Oh Juan

If you're a KissFM man, I can advise on that too...whilst tuned in, never say anything you wouldn't want the whole world to know! *wink*

PS. A part of me moves every second...easily LOL.

If you want to watch Spainish chanenls via satellite then your have a few options.

1 - a dish pointing towards Astra 1 and you get a small handful of channels which tend to be regional.

2 - a dish pointing towards Hotbird  and you get, again, a small handful of channels including TVE Internacional

See http://www.flysat.com/tv-sp.php for what free spanish channels are on what satellite

3 - a dish pointing towards Astra 1 or Hispasat and subscribe to Canal+ and you get all the terrestrial chanels and their pay channels.

Hi Satandpcguy.

I think our satellite dish must point towards Astra (19.2E), and I think several channels changed and must now be serviced by Hotbird.  How could we go about subscribing to canal plus?  I know that in reverse, one gets a card in the UK, plugs it into a box in Spain and gets the UK channels.  Does one do the same to get Spanish channels in the UK, i.e. get some kind of card in Spain that can then be slotted into a box/ 'decoder' in the UK?  We now only get TV Galicia and Cubavision!  We've lost TVE1 (some time ago), and more recently lost Canal Sur, Extremadura and TV Madrid...  Thanks.

You can see what free Spanish channels are on which satellite using the link i provided in my previous post.

How could we go about subscribing to canal plus? I know that in reverse, one gets a card in the UK, plugs it into a box in Spain and gets the UK channels Does one do the same to get Spanish channels in the UK, i.e. get some kind of card in Spain that can then be slotted into a box/ 'decoder' in the UK.

Thats what you do for C+. You subscribe to C+ using a Spanish address, you get the card, you put it into either a canal+ receiver, or another receiver that can read the c+ card, and you watch TV.

We now only get TV Galicia and Cubavision! We've lost TVE1 (some time ago), and more recently lost Canal Sur, Extremadura and TV Madrid... Thanks.

TVE1 has not been available for free on satellite for a few years now. TVE Internactional is their erm international channel!

Again, using the link in my previous post you can see what free channels are on which satellite, and their frequencies. It may simply be you can no longer receive Telesur or TVM as your receiver is looking for them on older unused frequencies. So a rescan of the correct frequencies should pick them up.

Thanks a lot satandpcguy.  We will aim to sort out the card when we're in Spain later this month.  Thanks again for you sparing your time to advise us.
