I think, at the end of the day it's still many peoples' dreams.  They may have dreamt of moving to Spain in the future and they can be a little blinckered sometimes.

But despite the crap government, unjust taxes, high unemployment and continuing corruption....Spain still offers a lot, and I don't just mean the weather.

And uprooting and moving to another country with a foreign language is still a brave move.  Personally I would rather die trying than have never tried at all.

It can be tough in Spain now and it's definitely a lot more expensive than it was but this country desperately needs an influx of foreign money again...I just don't think it's going to come any time soon.

This debate has been thrashed out a few times but after spending a week in England last month, I can categorically say that it was VERY cheap to eat out and supermarkets were cheaper than in Spain.  On the coast here in Spain it's expensive wherever you go and standards have dropped in many places too.

It's definitely not cheap here anymore!

Yes but even seasonal work on the coasts is tough to get now too!

Anyway, you don't really need much.  You'll need an NIE number which you can get in a day and no, you don't need to have any money in an account or anything like that.  In terms of health services, I think you need the EHIC card (which you can apply for online in the UK) which is fine to use when you are here as non-residents.

Best of luck :)

I second that comment!

Very tough here now, even if you are looking for summer work.  Unless you have something already lined up it's likely you'll find it near impossible to actually find any work at all.

Sounds a bit negative but unfortunately in a county with around 26% unemployed...it's the reality.

I've read many press reports about Corvera and I will eat my laptop if that airport ever does get used for commercial activities.

There was no need for it in the first place, it's a private venture and it seems totally unlikely that San Javier will ever close because of Corvera.

There are 4 or 5 airports in a similar situation in Spain and they are all now just white elephants.

It's just another legacy of a time when there was way more money than sense in Spain.
