There's plenty to do in that area. The beaches are lovely and there are lot of bars/restaurants.  A short walk brings you to the N332 and buses regularly go along there.  There is, unfortunately, no train station in Torrevieja but the bus services to Alicante (north) or Cartagena (south) are very good.  Both these towns have train services.  Caution!  Be very careful crossing the N332 as this is a very busy road and there are very few areas for pedestrians to cross.  There have been a few fatalities in the past, especially people leaving pubs!!  They are building a walkway (boardwalk) linking the beaches from Punta Prima along to La Zenia and other fine beaches in the area but I don't know if these are completed yet (you can walk the tracks already in existence but they are a bit iffy in parts).

Buses into Torrevieja are plentiful and should only take 10 to 15 minutes (depending on traffic).  You may find it difficult to go to the inland villages without a car.  Visit the church in the centre of the town as there is a tourist information office there which will give you free maps and advice on where to go.  Along the seafront promenade (which is also being built up into a tourist area) there is a small shack near the fountains which is also a tourist information office and they are very helpful (and speak English).

Take a ferry from Torrevieja to Tabarca island for the day (it's a long boat trip but you can get a bus to Santa Pola which runs more frequent ferries with just a short trip) and take some snorkelling gear and a picnic.  They even do "trips around the bay" (Escursiones Litorales) from the port and there is a Spanish Navy submarine there which offers tours.

Hope you enjoy your holiday.

Bobbaol, you are such a fountain of knowledge on this area!

You don't own here though do you?

You should! Then we could meet up for tea!

Anyway, my two penneth would be:

If you are into it, there are Go Karts to play around on, just near your hotel.

Try to visit the Parque Natural Lagunas, just outside of Torreveija on the left side of the N332 heading Alicate direction. such a lovely tranquil place through wooded areas and hides overlooking the salt lakes. You will see all manner of wild animals, take a picnic, lovely day out.

If you have children, (Or enjoyable even if you don't), near to Torrevieja town is the Parque de Nations. 20,000 square metres of fenced in area, ideal for children. Lake with ride on boats, ducks etc and some caged (ok, not everyone's favourite) animals, iguanas, tortoises, etc., Also a childrens playground. Again, take a picnic for a full day.

Enjoy!
