I have just heard there are problems with Sky TV in Spain.  Does anyone know what this is about?  I'm just about to arrange Sky but obviously won't go ahead if this will be an ongoing problem.

Any news appreciated.

Hi Rosemary.  I don't have any new info on Sky, but know about issues we've come across - and I must stress I have no idea of how accurate this info is!.

It seems you can't sign up to Sky for a Spanish address because the Sky corp. doesn't officailly supply satellite TV to Spain.   Apparently this is because the Spanish government don't pay Sky for something (?).   People can get Sky as the satellite 'footprint' falls across some parts of Spain, so we can access the signal.  That's why English companies installing Sky in Spain insist on a UK address.  It also means that you have to call the original installer or pay a new company if things go wrong, as Sky will not recognise you as a customer in Spain, only the UK address.

I changed my Sky provider last year after trouble with the sat dish and this time I was able to give the Spanish address but still had to pay direct debit from my UK bank to Sky inthe UK.  Still have to contact the installation company not Sky if anything goes wrong, which happens quite a lot when the picture freezes or signal needs boosting.

Other systems such as the mesh dishes were supposed to be phased out or illegal or something (can't remember sorry), but tthere are still loads of them out there.

Maybe it's something to do with the new freeview satellite just launched for the UK?   Try the EOS general forum - there was loads of info on there a while ago.

Good luck!

Vip Supporter

Yesterday we lost the Sky TV packages from our viewing package provided by Telemicro Cine and that has affected everybody using this system in The Costa Blanca and the Costa Calida

This in the €499 install and €19 per month package using the mesh aerials

The fact is that it is not legal to received broadcasts of SKY and BBC1 ITV etc, outside of the UK and although we still have ITV etc, SKY have come after the other broadcasters and shut them down via legal action

To get SKY our only solution is a 2.2m dish, a Sky Box and a subscription card registered in the UK, at full price

This is just in case anybody is about to commit to any TV package with SKY included
You can read much more on this topic on www.torrevieja.co.uk

Hi everyone living on S.G.

Has there been any update on the Sky televison situation. We are hopefully coming out on July 23rd for 3 weeks and wondered if we could install a box that could pick up the usual freeview type programs. Not worried about recieving Sky sports or movies and we are quite happy to pay monthly for it. Can anyone recommend a company that does this?

Davina

Next time someone is passing 15/48 would they check out our front garden to see if anything is happening there?

Hi
Sitation is in a state of flux at present. All the rebroadcasters are in the same situation so don't think its just Telemicro that are in trouble. My advice would be to wait until you really need it as things will continue to develop over the next few months.  There is an article on the subject in this weeks Round Town News on page 28 www.roundtownnews.co.uk you might be interested in reading and this will have ads for installers you may wish to consider. Also www.reporternewspaper.com also carries ads for similar.
Hope this is helpful.
June

Hi Tony & Janet.

I'm out, God willing, for four weeks in the summer and need broadband, do you know if anyone does a pay as you go system? ie. no point in paying for the broadband when I'm only going to use it for a month or two a year, any ideas?

Hi Tony,

Thanks for the info. We are definately coming out on the 23rd July for three weeks so we will talk to you then.

I'm so pleased the garden is well on it's way, hope it looks O.K. At least if it rains now we won't be tramping mud everywhere.

Say hi to Jan for me, see you both soon.

Davina

Hi Chris and Sandra,
On the internet connection we used IPV6 Informatica a Spanish company  tel : 868956133 email ipv65-informatica@ipv6-informatica.es they have an English speaker called Michael. We paid 90 euros for connection and 46 euros per month (inc IVA).  The service is good and the engineers helpful although we did have to refer to Michael by phone for some of the more technical translations!
Hope this is helpful.
June
