Good Afternoon all

I wondered has anyone booked with Ryanir since the new seat booking reservations have been running. We normally book priority boarding at £5 per head however I cant seem to book this without reserving a seat at min cost of £40 plus £8 for priority or £60 prem which includes priority. Is there anyway just to book priority without reserving seats??

Hmmmm - Just had a quick scamper round their website, which actually says

There are 2 types of allocated seat available for purchase:

Premium Seats from £/€ 10  - Rows 1-5 (rapid exit), rows 16 & 17 (extra leg room) and rows 32 & 33.  Premium Seats include Priority Boarding free of charge

Regular Seats from £/€5  – All other seats (rows 6-15 and rows 18-31).  Regular Seats may be upgraded to include Priority Boarding for a payment from £2/€2 per person/per flight.

Customers who do not wish to select and purchase their preferred allocated seat, can check-in online between 7 days and 2 hours before each booked flight and will be randomly allocated a seat free of charge.

So you could just purchase an ordinary seat and add on the £2 so only £7 total per person - so not much more than the old priority boarding.

Alternatively you can cross your fingers, check in late like we did last Monday for a Tuesday flight, and get put into row 5 free of charge and get the priority seat and boarding free of charge.

looks like you can't check in until 7 days before you travel !

That's crap for anyone wanting to print their return ticket if you're going away for a fortnight

It's just another money making scheme from Mr O'leary.

If you purchase your seat it is 30 days before so he's hoping that everyone will now go for this option. Because as you said if you go away for 2 weeks you really don't want to have to do it twice. Especially for people who are truly on holiday and have no access to a printer.

The Post Room is Los Alcazares makes a fortune on people wanting to print out return boarding passes.

We have just been to Lanzarote and chose not to pay for pre-booked seats.  At the airport when we checked in our luggage, we were allocated seats together and also given Priority.  I have no idea why but as everyone eventually is given a seat number there doesn't seem any point in having Priority.

Just remembered that we actually got seats allocated when we checked in on-line.

The reason for priority is that only the first 90 pieces of hand luggage are now allowed on the plane. The rest get put in the hold free of charge but if you want to make a quick escape then you either need to have priority or at least be at the front of "the other" queue to guarantee getting your bag on board - or else wait for it to come out on the carousel.

This took almost 30 minutes last week!

it's just another Ryanair scam.

They know that most families go on holiday for a fortnight which makes it impossible to print off your return ticket before you go. Since few will have access to a printer, they're banking on you choosing an allocated seat so you can print off your return before you go..and despite what their web page says, it's another £15 each way to do so..(I tried this morning)

We paid £7 each for priority which included assigned seating and it was worth every penny. We were third on the plane and no problem putting our bags overhead beside us. We had two seats (not window seat) and ended up having the row to ourselves which was nice so we could spread out and use the middle seat for magazines etc. Worth the money every time and especially when we watched other people frantically worrying about where their baggage was going (a lot of it in the hold) and we could just sit and relax.

Where else would £7 bring such comfort. In my opinion Ryanair do a great job as long as you can read and obey their rules. Loving the new rule that I can keep my handbag out and even indulge in some retail therapy in Stansted now prior to boarding. My husband is less impressed!
