can anybody put this in plain englishwhat non residentstax is  we have had apartment for nearly 4yrs but now we have been told we will need to pay up,  an roughly what it will cost.

From memory I believe it is about 29 euros each resident and it is payable once every two years...

Non residents tax is payable by the 31st December every year there are numerous places that can assist you with the forms, I actually used the solicitor based in the Milenium office he charged 30 euros per person per property so if the apartment is in two names then you both have to pay it.  I think others on this forum have mentioned spanish tax forms which might be a little cheaper.  I would advise you to get help though as the Spanish Inland Revenue are about as difficult as the UK Inland Revenue!!!!

Mine last year was aroung 63 euros each

I'm sure other will also advise on this issue but I hope this helps

Hard to believe  this has passed you by, its not something new- it's also been on this forum over and over and  comes up regularly on other forums with new owners. If in doubt go back to the Solicitors you used to buy the apartment. Everyone pays taxes- if resident you have taxes to pay if non resident you pay a relatively small amount based on the fact you may well 'let' people use your apartment if you dont 'let' people use your apartment you might well feel hard done by but it is the way things are done in Spain and your Solicitors should have brought this to your attention- another reason for using a Solicitor when purchasing. I'm not sure if you have to pay arrears dated from completion.

Its worth noting that the utility companies now examine usage of non resident gas or electric and water to try to establish if they are renting unofficially. Costa de Sol has seen a surge in tax bills sent out to non resident owners. This has a knock on effect on who those owners use as key holders, cleaners and airport collection and car rental companies. Other regions are set to follow.

Am I right in saying that the form for the year ending 2011 now has to be completed online and that you do not need the stickers any longer?
