Golf in San Juan

Two things

Does anyone know what is happening the new golf course near the town? When I was over in August 08 it looked great and was nearly ready for play. When I was over in July this year it seemed to have disimproved greatly with a number of the grens turned to brown and no further development.

Second thing is - how many golfers do we have have in CDP. I thought it might be a good idea to start some sort of informal golf society so that we could keep each other posted when we will be there and arrange golf together. Also I thought if there were enough of us we might be able to negotiate better rates for ourselves locally. I also thought that once a year we could organise a competition when a good number of us would be there. With enough notice Im sure we could get a good numebr to make an effort to be there at the time.

Anyway enough rambling, first thing is to find out how many of us out there???

There are a number of golf societies between Aguilas and Mojacar and they have a league

In reply to Sean's original question about the bottom golf course, they have now stopped watering it, cutting it and taking any care of it at all. The greens have burnt in the intense sun here and are all brown, and the fairways are becoming overgrown, The bunkers are starting to get weeds growing in them and it's all looking very sad. Because there are no staff working there anymore there are people walking dogs (me included) kids riding bikes (lovely tyre tracks across greens) etc.

I understand the problem has been that they cannot get anyone to take over the running and management of the course and it's too expensive for Pulpí to maintain. It's a real shame.

The top course, which is where we're members is trying very hard to accomodate people who are not here all year round with various membership deals, so it would be worth going and checking out what's available.

I have GOLFSANJUAN society cards which can be borrowed whilst you are here which ensures you get society rates which is normally better than walk up rates. If anyone wants one just call me when they are over.

I negotiated with the management at Aymerich (aguilon).
