Hi folks,

Just had a look at the saggy canopy, may have looked better if it had been pulled tight,  sorry it just doesn't look good.  I do go brown very easily.  As for the kids, sun is fine but not between 12pm and 3pm after that no problems as long as high factor applied.  The secret of tanning is to do it gradually and slowly, I personally sunbath from 4 till 6 when the sun is not at its strongest.  Would a tilting parasol not do the same job and that way you can either have it up or down without much hassle.
I think the only tastefull solution to this problem is PWs own canopy, expensive I know but it does look the part and fits perfectly.

The solid wooden monstrosity would look better had it been the right length.

My fear is the whole complex will not look uniformed and will look trashy and cheap, and this is not what I bought into.  I do think there needs to be standards and both of those canopys just don't reach mine.

Sorry, this is just my opinion
Ali

I hope someone has formally complained about this monstrosity. It needs to be nipped in the bud otherwise others will pop up all over the resort.

We have the Ikea conopy and in the short term its what we'll be using. Its white so meets Polaris requirements, its also inexpensive and thats a bonus. Plus, we want to wait and see what the dust levels are like before spending a lot on the canopy. We need shaded area's, fair skin in the family so will definately have canopy of one sort or another, a parasol would be insufficient on its own and they are subject to blowing over or as we found at La Torre when ours blew right over the dividing wall and onto next doors terrace. I kid you not- the wind lifted it out of the weighted stand and over the wall. After that we were worried it would end up in the pool!!

I'm in agreement.  We are hoping to get an Ikea canopy, again for the short term.  We still have yet to resolve the problem of dirty water falling onto our patio or canopy.  Whilst they are still working around the gardens it is going to be constantly dirty and parasols are not the answer as we found out in August.  We had to dash across the garden after someones umbrella which wasn't even open at the time.  When all the teething problems and building work in the immediate area are finished then we will bite the bullet and buy pw canopy.

We'll be looking for a cheap alternative to start, mainly because as already posted, there is so much dirt and dust around, it would be foolish to spend too much on it initially - Also, as others have already mentioned, this area is a naturally windy area, there's a local name for it but can't remember at the minute, and we've heard people in the past saying they have had tables and even those gas heaters take off and literally end up down the road, in someone else's garden - So waiting to see what happens to the PW canopy when the winds get up

What a pity Phil, maybe you could email them and ask when they will have more stock.

On the point of it being windy in the area, when we stayed at La Torre we woke one morning to find the glass patio table on its side against the patio doors and the chairs upside down distributed about the terrace- so its true they do get strong winds there.

After finding the sun brolly over on next doors terrace we would go over to the bar for a drink and spend the whole time nervously watching our terrace incase it did it again. (and that was even when leaving it closed up, lying it down on the tiles wasnt wholly successfull as the wind would get inside it and  semi lift it up) However, down on the ground it wasnt always evident to us how windy it was two or three floors up.

We will be looking at some method of securing patio furniture when we are not there.

I think when we eventually get a 'proper' canopy for the pergola we may try to get one in a cassette - in an efort to keep it clean when we are not there.

Whilst speaking to customer services about snagging I asked about why things like the SKY dishes are appearing when we were told we couldn't have them attached to the property.  Apparently,Polaris wont take action against odd additions they expect the community committees to deal with anything not considered 'within the rules'

Hi Jan & Mike,

Nothing like passing the buck,  don't think that leaving these dicisions to the committee a very good one. Ask yourself this, How many people will install a dish? and if the committee decided dishes are not for our complex!!!, How many people will actually take in down? PW are going to cause lots of headaches for the furure by burying their heads in the sand.

I am not shooting the messanger but would like to shoot PW.

Ali, I agree.  It will be very difficult for any committee to insist on things being taken down, which were put in place before any regulations were agreed................   - so I am getting my sky dish and big wooden pegoda cover up quick!!!

There's going to be trouble ahead!  My question was going to be how did they cope with this sort of thing in the other resorts? When I was taken around Le torres on inspection trip that was one thing the rep said PW will not allow any sat dishes, washing lines, or queird shaped obsticals from the properties!!!  Which I for one liked the idea!

But when you think about it we are the first low rise buildings that have been built so things cannot not be hidden like they maybe have in the other resorts.

I think this is quite a big issue because it will effect all of us on the Condado especially anyone in the Jardiens - I am sure no one wants to see every apartment with Sat dishes, etc etc  - where will it end someone enclosing the whole of the roof top in to make an extra bedroom???!  !!   Not good!

Just a thought, aren't PW supposed to be responsible for running the community committees initially until/unless the residents vote them out?

I like your humour ted! I was going to get all offended and say that the wooden monster was mine. - that's the Liverpool sense of humour for you. ( it isn't my wooden monster by the way!) Tan

I agree with Scapa
Don't want to be looking out of my apartment just to see hundreds of satallite dishes instead of beautiful views!!!
It's a toss up on beautiful views or sitting in all day watching television
Think I would prefer to look at beautiful views myself!!!!

Going back to the ikea canopy availability. Nottingham ikea have 12 in stock, but they can' t find them anywhere! They will not be getting any more in as it is a seasonal product.

Sorry U424745- this is another htread that appears to be spreading its wings. When  I spoke to customer services  I mentioned Sky dishes and canopies as well because although we have the IKEA version I quite like the cane version's I have seen on other resorts. So I wanted to sound them out about the why's and wherefore's. However despite their reply I think we thought that PW are responsible for the running of things in the short term.

Maybe if someone else has cause to speak to PW customer Services they could ask further, or knows how these things have been manged on other Polaris resorts they could bring us up to speed
