Description

Traditionally rebuilt 20 years ago on the ruins of the former family farm, this is a quality family home with thick exterior stone walls under a tiled roof. The entrance to the property is through a tiled archway over locked iron gates. Beyond the parking area, past the former chapel is the covered porch with imposing double wooden doors.
Inside the hall, with downstairs lavatory, is the door to kitchen, and the decoratively tiled stairway. The hall opens out into the huge living room with the large dining table and 10 chairs. a small step and wood banister divides the dining area from the sitting area with it's big feature fireplace. Windows on one side are exterior and on the other form the upper parts of the double doors to the long veranda with it’s wood burning stove. The kitchen has a traditional forno (bread oven) as well as bottled gas cooking. The ground floor also has the boiler room, which doubles as a workshop and laundry room.
Upstairs, along a tiled landing are good-sized double bedrooms - four of which have showers en suite. The master bedroom has a small balcony, windows on two sides and the shower over a bath en suite. All bedrooms have large built-in wardrobes.
Outside, at the end of the house there is a locked tool shed. Adjacent is the covered barbecue and open wood storage. The grassed garden has a small mature orchard, a variety of flowering bushes and several trees. A stone path leads to the decorative exterior light. The remainder of the land is paddock leading down to a small oak wood.
The property is on the edge of the Forest of Eume national park, and within walking distance are both the River Eume and the powerful stream that used to drive the small local mill.
Ortigueira hosts the annual Celtic music festival in July and is 35 minutes away. An hour away is Lugo with its stunning cathedral and old Roman walls that surround the city. Head north for an hour and discover the dramatic slate rocks of Los Cathedrales beach. To the west there are many unspoiled sandy beaches including Lime Boo and Playa San Xurxo.
With the sea on two sides of Galicia, the array of seafoods is vast. The regional wines are exceptional with light, fresh, crisp white wines from Rías Baixas and character red wines from the Ribeiro.
