Thanks for your message.  We did get this resolved via the Halifax Bank and we got all our Money back as the HS terms and conditions state that a Standing Order will be set up with the bank to collect next years payment, but no standing order was set up with the bank.  HS used my previous credit card details to take money from my bank and this is not a standing order so, we got our money back.

All's well that ends well.

Regards

Sands.

Hi guys

Thanks for your responses.  Yes i believe they offer a great service but they cannot reach me here!  I have contacted my bank and the payment was taken using my debit card details - I had never signed a DD mandate!  I certainly was not aware that they could use my card details again without my permission..the bank though will try and help and have notified this thread to tHS so I will keep you informed!!

Thanks for listening!!

Hi

Has anyone had any problems cancelling this service?  Hubby and I subscribed for a year and have to say received an excellent service but what with the world economy etc etc decided that our money was better invested in the UK than Spain and reluctantly returned to the UK late last year.  We sorted out all our bills. visited the above at their offices to say we were moving back etc -  they took a note and said that was OK.  Now low and behold they have debited our UK account again for the following year.  I contacted them to say this was wrong and initially they said that the person to whom we spoke should have told us we needed to back this in writing but if I faxed ID and a signed letter of cancellation they would refund the amount and agreed that it was pointless to pay for a service we could not use!!  I thought great- very helpful  and understaning thanks - was very impressed with the guy and his english!

but oh no I received no reply to my fax and had to call them again and they said they would send me an e-mail and told me it takes two or three weeks to refund any money.   This time the same guy who told me to fax, replied on e-mail and denied saying that I would get a refund  now, but that the fax I sent   would qulify us to cancel next years subscription. i.e for 2010.  I cannot fathom how the agreement to subscribe for one year allowed them (and I must speak to my UK bank also) to take money again this year.  They explained their T's & C's  said they could do this but when I called in before we left no-one said to confirm in writing and we left in good faith.  Faith now destroyed as they seem to be very uncompromising, which does surprise me as we already lost out on 4 months service from them on leaving!!

No-doubt some-one will point out it was in small print somewhere, but a year on.... and we spoke with them...and the rep at the time did not say the mandate could be used again!!  I'm very disappointed in HS and feel that they are taking advantage of the fact that we are in the UK now which makes it more difficult for us.  Not good for a caring sharing service for genuine mistake , lack of communication??whichever.  Their reps and receptionists for not advising us when we called??  And now their telephone rep changing his story about the refund.

When we tried to cancel telefonica I was aware they were reluctant to do so becuase they thought our tale of going back to UK was an excuse to change providers and we had a couple of problems but ironed them out.  Surely this medical service does not adopt the same stance.  I am very definately and reluctantly in the snow in Sunny Scotland.  Very disappointed in an organisation which I much admired.  Is this rip off HS? With the age of technology we could easily make out a backdated copy of letter and say we handed it in, how could they prove otherwise that they didn;t get it, but I did it in person verbally...

Apart from  'tough' you've lost £300,  any other experiences or same problem - any way to sort it out?

Now broke and cannot afford snow boots to replace my flip flops!

hi guys

Sorry gillespie but perhaps like ourselves some are genuine and yes it is human nature to look for a bargain.- I do feel sorry for those who have to cut and run but our timing to come here and sell up was pretty tragic also since our buying power is down so much because of the euro so if looking at repos for example is a bad thing then I'm bad! But a bargain at auction may be our only way to stay here!  But it would stil have to be value for money and not some trash.

RIxxi I saw the auction link on your message and had a look - are these the properties you referred to earlier when you said you were advertising for the banks?  Your can see from the auction history that even sales there are not great but at least we have found one bit of info about auctions!

We asked our bank manager about auctions and he said they had some porperties in ditress but when we asked how and when they went to auction he kind of backed up and said it was to do with the courts and very complicated. So no joy there as how to find any more - I have also googled myself out rying to find auction info.  Other half reckoned he didn;t want to give us the info cos he would rather try and sell us a mortgage -

anyone able to advise on the reposession system here and where you can find out what is coming on the market ?  Are there any apartments out here that are actually of superior build?  I'm happy as i said for any advice from those who have been here longer.  Its nice to chat anyway as we have been here 6 months and still don't know anyone.  the complex is pretty much empty all the time and aprt from a hello the few other brits seem very reluctant to chat!  Spoken to a few holiday makers though!!
