I'm new to this post but am amazed at the negative comments from some.

Crime is not rife in Spain, you are far more likely to be attacked or burgled in many other parts of Europe including the UK. The figures are there to be seen if you care to look. Yes, it does rain and when it does it can be heavy. It's just as well because water is always wanted in warm climates.May I also remind some that there are hose pipe bans in the UK.

It is important to try and learn basic Spanish as that makes living here more enjoyable. Also it has the added benefit of keeping alzeimers at bay!

Good times in Spain are not a thing of the past but like all countries it changes and we have to adapt.

Just make sure you join groups and make friends.

Forget the malcontents and welcome.

What's this concentration on Costa del Sol? I would suggest the northern Costa Blanca, in particular around Moraira. It's protected by a backdrop of mountains and is only marginally cooler than the Costa del Sol, but much quieter and definitely more select. No high risers, many varied restaurants and a good mix of nationalities. We love our music up here and regularly listen to all types including rock, classical and folk. There are also jam sessions in some of the restaurants.

We have lived in the Costa del Sol but have now retired up here. There's no comparison and plenty of long term rentals at good prices. Also so much to do - walking in the mountains, golf, lectures, social fuctions, petanque, backgammon, quizzes etc. We have less time now than when we were working but much better life.

Come and have a look amd see what I mean.

As usual respondents talk about using alternative airlines but for at least 6 months of the year Ryanair is the only one to operate out of Doncaster, Leeds and East Midlands.

Easyjet has withdrawn from the East of the UK, presumably can't compete on price.

I have the new SKY card and it was working okay with my SKY HD Box (Tomson) but the level of service has deteriorated to the extent that now I have no signal. I have checked the quality of output from my 2.4 m dish and it is fine, so I presume the box is at fault. This is where the problems start as the supplier in the UK needs to check the box and replace by leaving it connected to a dish for up to 24 hours, but we can't do this as we don't have such a dish in the UK!

I've been told there is a new HD box by Samsung which is more reliable than mine but how do I get it without paying a fortune in Spain (North Alicante)?

To make it clear.

You have a choice as to where you pay the VAT, either in the UK or Spain but the reason for the former is so that the car can be imported as a personal goods and so avoid the CEO. So it is not a car for export only but a British one but EU compliant (lights/speedo).

Can't see the point of the test but if it is a requirement then no choice.

My wife does speak fluent Spanish but we would be using a firm with the requisite experience and to avoid any mistakes.

We live in Alicante province, near Moraira.

Regards to you both,

Robin
