Many thanks to Dizzyspain for trying to bring clarity to the differance between NIE and Residencia.

What I don't understand -- is a Residencia required?

My situation:  US citizen.  Arrived 3.5 years ago to work for an organization.  They did most of the required footwork and paperwork to ensue all was completely legal -- though I did present in person to get my first NIE.  (My NIE type is Residencia y Trabajo)

Worked for the organization for over 3 years.  I have always had an established bank account, I am registered at the CAP, I have re-newed NIE twice, I do my tax returns every year.  I am currently registered unemployed and on paro.  During all this time, I have never, never been asked for a Residencia card or paper by anyone; authorities, businesses, etc.

Have I been unwittingly remiss?  (I always want to do everything required by law of the country I am living in.) Do I legally need to apply for a residencia?

Many thanks for anyone who knows the correct answer and is willing to share.

Dear Lobin,

You are quite correct, many thanks.  Actually, it was a typing mistake on my part!  I meant to include an "m".

Good day to all!

Good Morning Growler,

I don't know why anyone should take offense at a perfectly rational question.

The primary question seems to have been satisfactorily answered.  But to help with a quick sub-question:  The name for the type of entombment wall you refer to is "columbarium" (in English).

I believe the term in Castellano is "colubario", and in Catala is "columbari".   Disclaimer -- I am NOT a translator or interpreter.   My only reason for believing these are the correct terms:  I have used these both of these words with native language speakers, and it appears that they always have understood exactly what I was referring to.

Long life to you!

Dear Clever Bloggers on this Forum,

Reading various thread comments, obvious that lots of you live here on income generated in UK.  Need your sage ideas regarding a potential opportunity for me.

I moved to Spain as I was employed by an international NGO.  Have had my NIE (residencia y trabajo) for 3+ years (recently renewed for another two).  I am a US passport holder.

I have possiblity of employment with a UK international NGO that does not have any partner or recuriting or fundraising offices in Spain.  (There is a US office of this NGO.)

Getting work visas in the UK for US citizens these days is damn near impossible.  (Although I have had residency and work visas there in the 1990's).

If UK NGO would consider letting me work from Spain, what options can I pursue to set up to do this legally?   I don't think I could be considered self-employed, as I would definately have a work contract with the UK org.  I would prefer to be paid in Euros, and I would prefer to pay all taxes (income, etc.) and social security in Spain, but would not require that.

Any info or advice will be deeply appreciated!

Thanks Redfava, will keep your clear and concise response on file if run into serious problems again (as I am a telefonica client as well).  Your suggestion will probably also work for people who wish to view something on the Beep but are denied access because they are out of the UK.  (I have readjusted settings in the manner you describe to do this.)

I continue to have one smaller problem with the WorldService--and wondering if others do to.  This problem started when they changed the webpages--when I click to listen to the audio of the 5 mins news bulletin, it usually can't connect.  I have to click 10-15 times before it actually connects and starts.  Anyone else have similar problem?

Continue to enjoy the long weekend!
