A final note!  Because the 'potencia contratada' is a fixed part of the bill, the final price we pay per unit is slightly more the less we use and slightly less the more we use.

Using a 5.5 kW supply as an example, my consumption works out at 23.3 eurocents per unit.    If I only used 326 units the final cost is 26.3 eurocents per unit and if used 726 units the final cost is 22 eurocents per unit.

I hope that this helps put things in perspective.

Here endeth the lesson - well it is Sunday!!

Forgot to mention - my bill is based on a 9.2kW contract.

You can get lots more info on Iberdrola's rates.  Log on to iberdrola's website.  Click on 'English' in top line.  Go to bottom of page and 'information about'.  Click on electricity.  In the search box type 'precios' and click on search.  Click on the first result.  Select 'English' again.  Here you will see that the power charge is 20.633129 euros per kW per year.

So on a 9.2 kW contract, the annual charge is 20.633129 x 9.2    ie 189.82 euros per year.  So my bill works out as follows:

Potencia contratada   20.633129 x 9.2 / 365 x61........................................................31.72 euros

Energia consumida  526kWh x 0.148729...................................................................78.23 euros

Impuesto sobre electricidad (surcharge)

(31.72 +78.23) x 0.04868 x 1.05113............................................................................5.62 euros

Alquiler equipos de medida (equip rental).....2 months @0.84 euros..................1.68 euros

All of this = 117.25 euro.

Add IVA (VAT) at 18% and you get a final total of 138.36 euros.

138.36 divided  by 526 gives a final cost of 26.3 eurocents a unit.

I have a property in El Pinet.  I have lived on the Urb - for 9 years now, and have some understanding of Iberdrola's charges for electricity.

My latest bill, in yesterday, is for 138,36euros for a 61 day period.  The basic unit cost of one unit of electricity has just gone up to 14.8729 eurocents.   My consumption was 526 units, so I am actually paying 136.36euros divided by 526   eurocents per unit.  That is 26.3 eurocents per unit.  (There is a contract charge, a surcharge, equipment rental charge all +18%vat each month)

On a 3.5 kW contract it would have been 21.7 eurocents per unit, on a 5.5 kW contract 23.3 eurocents per unit and on a 7.5 kW contract 24.8 eurocents per unit.

Until things are finalised in El Pinet and Iberdrola have installed the correct supply, the most we can expect is 3.5 kW.  The cost would realistically be somewhere in the 21 to 22 eurocent range per unit.

Rumour has it that Iberdrola are charging something in the region of 19eurocents per unit for our builder's supply.

I am writing this in the cause of realism.  If, when we are billed, the cost per unit is in that 21 to 22 eurocent region let us not hear an outcry of whingeing that a unit only costs about 15eurocents.  Realistically it is what we would pay in normal circumstances.

I have not posted before!!

I attended the AGM on Saturday, and I am amazed that regular posters have made no mention of what, to me, is the most important revelation of the meeting.

This concerns the work required on the main electricity supply cable.  In recent months we have heard that Elche is happy with the work done on the roads, street lighting and sewerage system.  The main outstanding work to be done was the rerouting of the electricity cable underground.  Then habitation certificates could be issued.

When San Jose started the project, a sum of money had to be lodged with Elche.  At the meeting it was disclosed that, although there was distrust between San Jose and Iberdrola, Elche was releasing some of that money so that the engineering work for the cable could be done. Apparantly this work is close to hand and the term 'end of February' was quoted.  Another phrase used was that the problem 'would be solved'.

Also, the site foreman is apparantly being reemployed on site in January.  Work on the site is due to start by the end of the month.

I have no intention of becoming involved in bickering  about money.  I just feel that there is a positive note of optimism and I have great expectations for the next few months - habitation certificates, our own meters and peace of mind.
