I purchased an apartment in Malaga province in 2012. I paid 125,000€ and the 7% purchase tax required. In mid 2012 I had a demand from the tax people for 9,500 €....my solicitor said it was a re-valuation of the catastral value, based on a formula not many mortals could understand. They had said the re-vaaluation was 255,000€!!!! He told me the accepted thing to do was appeal, and get a re-valuation, this had to be done within so many days. He appealed on my behalf, and got a re-valuation of 155,000€ and therefore I had to pay them the reduced sum of 2,500€. Reluctantly, I said I would pay, he advised that the accepted course of action was to do nothing, the tax people would therefore think we had accepted the new valuation, and the sum would be deducted from my bank account by Christmas 2012.
When January came and went, I contacted the solicitor and advised no money had been removed from my account, he dropped the bombshell...oh sorry, but I should have let the tax people know we had accepted the new valuation, as 'We' didnt, they have reverted to the original valuation of 255,000€ and now you owe them 10,500 €....including interest!...

I stayed in Spain untill last October, thats when my Spanish bank account was embargoed as I didnt have that sort of money to pay the debt, so I came back to the UK. I have since written to my local MEP...he has written to the Spanish Ambassador in London, who basically said 'tough'....you have to pay my corrupt government your hard earnt money whilst we carry on squandering it....so, now I have a new solicitor, Spanish based in England, who is going to attempt to get some justice. ?.im not holding my breath!

Yes....I will take your advice and obtain a copy of the paperwork. I know other people have had similar requests, the woman who purchased my villa, before I came here, had the same happen to her. Also, someone who I was chatting to at this years AGM recieved a similar request from the Tax Authorities...think this is widespread, so as I said, solicitors will be making a few euros out of this scam...the Spanish PPI...

I know I'm not the only one to be subject to what I can only describe as a scam, by the Spanish Tax authorities. It goes like this....

I purchased my apartment in Duquesa Village, in March 2012... For the sum of 125.000€. All legal, and above board, and I paid the Tax that my solicitor advised me i had to pay. Today I got an email from him saying that the Tax Authorities have re-valued my apartment, and in their opinion, it's worth 254.000€!!! Probably the 2006 value.

So, they are asking me to pay an extra 9300€ in tax.....it seems, according to my solicitor, that the Tax Authorities are trying to obtain money by any means possible...Spain is somewhat financially embarrassed at the moment.

If the dimwit who valued my property at the above sum would like to purchase it ....at that sum, I would be so happy to remove 254.000€ from his, or her bank account...but we all know that he..ot she, in reality would never be so stupid.

What I now have to do is employ a solicitor to fight the case, pleading that my property is not worth the sum the Tax Authorities say it is...oh..at my cost of course..it would appear to me that solicitors are going to make a lot of money over this...wonder if they are part of the scam???
