I'm just back from Calasparra and work is still continuing on the Commercial Centre, it is thought there is going to now be a two storey restaurant, supermarket and bar. They are working on ALL the units so maybe this rumour is true.

There has been some talk of letting the owners of the Villas have use of the Bowling Green for a nominal yearly fee, this was suggested by the owner of a Villa, who also has an apartment that they rent out, but as far as I'm aware this has not been agreed and I believe would only go ahead if there was a majority of the apartments in agreement. I was over in July and the pool was not fit for use during the first 4 days, it was cleaned for use for a couple of days by the son of a Spanish family who were on holiday at their apartment, it seemed the builders were not interested in maintaining the pool, it seems the pump/filter is not working properly and this will have to be fixed before any handover. There was an emergency meeting held by some of the residents of the apartments, the builders and their chosen Administrator on Thursday 12th July, I wasn't there myself but I have received information that it was a bit of a shambles and they are trying to organise another Administrator, as the one organised by the builder is based in La Manga!! I believe the builders are handing over the apartments and pool to an Administrator today 27th if all is well and the pool is working properly, we have a President and Vice President now in place and if you want to PM your e mail address I will forward your details to Greg and he will hopefully have some news today regarding the handover. I'm over again 2nd August so will take some pics and post on my return.

Hi there, we also have apartment facing the pool and was told when we signed for the apartment in March that the pool and landscaping would not be completed until the last apartment was signed for. I know there was a bit of a delay with completing due to the poor weather (unusually wet weather) but after speaking to a few residents they say that the workers are concentrating on the apartments. I don't see anything been completed this month I'd probably say nearer end june before pool is cleaned and filled, as for landscaping they may plant shrubs but it will be next year before they are established. I'm going over mid may so will try to get an update from sales office/builders and post on here on my return.
Regards
M Briggs

Well we have just returned and are happy to report that our completion went without a hitch, in fact it was a breeze. I spoke to Jason, in the sales office regarding the wiring on the solarium walls and quizzed him regarding the external condensers for the air con units, Jason advised that in Jan 07 the builders were told that it was a legal requirement for them to install wiring for air con units inside each apartment. As for the question regarding the positioning of the external condensing units being situated in the area above the upstairs solarium doorway, which I must state we would NOT see from our solariums, I have been told by Jason and Oscar that this issue should be a discussion to be raised at our community meetings. At present there are some residents both ground and first floor, who have already installed air con, their external condenser units appear on the side of the buildings and don't appear too unsightly, but if everyone was to have their units installed that way it would start to look messy and take away the look of the buildings. If everyone in our block did have air con installed then there would be 8 external condenser units which would be situated as I stated before in the area above the upstairs doorway entrance. My husband works in the building industry and is not too bothered by this option. The builders representative, Oscar, has told me that the wiring on the solarium walls is only a temporary measure, these will hidden in some way. I hope this report helps you understand a little better as to what could possibly happen, this area really is the only area to place the units if we want to retain the beauty of the buildings. Anyway there are a lot of sky dishes on these areas already, that will be another matter for the community meetings!!!

If anyone else, like us, is planning to arrange furniture etc themselves rather than a furniture package then I would recommend going to Murcias' Nueva Condomina, en route to Ikea which is only 40 minutes from Calasparra. It was a very straight forward drive and we luckily had hired a Vauxhall Meriva, which spent the week loaded up constantly. This shopping mall even has a Primark!!! We purchased our white goods from a shop recommended by a neighbour, suitated inside the mall called Eroski, it is basically like a Tesco Extra selling everything from food, white goods, beds, toasters etc. Most of the staff do not speak English but we luckily spoke to an assistant called Victoria, who was most helpful, they offer Free Delivery, but you must have a mobile that the delivery driver can contact you to advise you of delivery time, this can be very tricky if, like us, you don't know much Spanish, but we did manage and got our delivery. They also install the goods, and check the applicances are working, take away all the boxes, wrapping etc. For DIY items, bathroom fittings and lights we found Leory Merlin very competitive, it is basically the equivalent of B&Q. For the solarium or garden areas we found Carrefour in Torrevieja Centro Commercial to offer more of a variety than most other places.
