Since owning my apartment for 2 years now, and for the best part, the place was unfurnished mainly because I couldn’t afford to fully furnish it.  Now with hindsight I’m so glad I didn’t furnish it with the likes of Villapac or others.  Like most of us whom have bought apartments here, the choices were either source the furniture yourself or remotely choose and pay for a “furniture package”.  I have seen some of the quality of these “packaged” deals and also heard stories about how some of these packages were sold to homeowners depending on their wages/status.   Luckily, the credit crunch has seen many of these suppliers gone bust (in some cases, scarpered!).

To get the apartment furnished and ready for 2010 summer hols, I decided to visit Spain and stay at the apartment for 4 ½ weeks:

Loved the brilliant weather, especially for October and for someone like me who suffers from SAD it was great!

Loved – getting my large terrace cleaned by Fabtech (Nick Green) who got rid of all the builder’s cement I’d been trying to get cleaned for years now – albeit unsuccessfully.

Loved – installing the digi box for freeview channels at a reasonable price, but hated the fact that I couldn’t pick up the BBC channels, or the fact that it took ages for the AEA to sort out the “amplifier” and still waiting for this to be sorted.

Loved my finds in second hand shops like Blue Box and Jean’s Emporium in San Pedro which saved me a fortune in bits of furniture.

Hated that things are so expensive out here and that you really need time to shop around for good value and quality interior decoration BUT......

LOVED Casuso in Sabinillas – for anyone wishing to furnish their newly acquired apartment – Malcolm is the best person to source this for you and he will save you a fortune. He’s has some innovative ideas to save you money – like using dress curtains instead of full curtains to dress your windows!

If anyone needs any advice on where are the best places to source furniture, send me a PM and I’ll be happy to help.

Hope this helps - Google for directions.

On a recent holiday to our apartment I had to deal with Sevillana Endesa and boy it was not easy!  People will tell you that you need to phone them in the morning to speak to an English speaking agent and that means being put on hold for ages or until you run out of credit!

I had numerous visits to their offices in Marbella (no english speakers available here) and San Pedro (off Calle  Marques del Duero) which shuts at 1300hrs. You're right their office in Estepona is closed.  Finally and after several visits to both offices and telephone calls I decided to ask my lawyers to deal with problem.  During the months of July and August they work half days and resolution takes longer than normal!

Is everyone receiving their Factura bills?  I have never received any for the last 2-3 years!
