We're stayng at HR at the moment and I have seen exactly the same thing.

What you will probably need to do is disable your wireless connection (as there is nothing for it to connect to).  Then plug in the ethernet cable and you should be all set.  You may find you need to disable then re-enable your ethernet connection, so it can pick up a new IP Address.  Then you will probably get the trusted Website Certification Warning that Colin mentions.  I do the same as Colin and "accept".

Hope this helps

Jackie

We're using QPM for keyholding and have also used them for various jobs (fitting lights, window locks, ceiling fans etc).  We met them first when they carried out our snagging.

Very professional and highly recommended.

I know, bit sad really. But needed to be done as my husband is working from HR this week, needed a reliable internet connection and we had heard that the Polaris option had been unstable.

However, pleased to report a robust Polaris service since last Thursday (when we started using it properly). We have been using Sykpe for phone calls, which have worked well. Don’t think the Polaris phone option is available yet at HR but we haven’t needed it.

So have the Vodafone Spain Mobile Internet option as backup, but not needed it.

For full time use for a year, I would go for the Polaris 1Mb monthly option (1 year contract and the speed was good for all we were doing). Think its 32 Euro a month plus tax. That assuming you want to be online for more than 4-5 hours a week. Less than that and the Polaris AreaNet card or Mobile Internet are worth considering. Not sure about other ISP’s or phone companies at HR and since my Spanish is non-existent, difficult to ask the questions of the right people!

Do bear in mind though that a Mobile Internet Modem bought in the UK, even on Vodafone, is locked to the UK network and you would be charged very high roaming charges if you used it in Spain. That’s why you need an unlocked modem so you can use a SIM card from the country you’re visiting and hence avoid roaming charges.

Hope that helps!

Here's some info that I previously posted on another forum - hope its of some use.  We are currently at HR and using the one month Polaris option mentioned at the bottom of the info below and so far all has worked well for the last week.  We have set up a secure Wireless network and able to connect from the terrace!

Previosly posted info:
We used our unlocked Huawei E220 modem (bought off eBay in the UK and tested with Three in the UK) with a Vodafone Spain PAYG sim card (also bought off eBay in the UK). Take care that this is a card that can be used with voice and data, particularly HSDPA. Some older cards don’t have this capability.

We registered the Spanish sim card via the Vodafone Spain website before we went to Spain (by putting the sim card into an unlocked mobile to get the password codes sent by text). We then topped up the Vodafone sim via our CAM bank account online (there is a mobile phone top-up option).

When we arrived in Spain, we bought a PAYG data package online – simple to do - you send a text from the modem to a specific number. There are specific settings you need to use with the modem in Spain (in the same way as there are in the UK – username, password, APN, etc). These are readily available on the internet if you search – I can send details to anyone who needs them – e-mail me offline.

The modem connected from the apartment at HR at 7.2Mbps, which is as good as you can get with a modem of this type. We were also able to use Skype with the modem.

So, in summary, appeared to work well at the highest connection speed possible and therefore a good alternative to Polaris broadband. However costs will depend on the amount of data you will need/use. We will probably use the Polaris one month option if we are there for an extended stay and recommend the AreaNet card for visitors to the apartment. Otherwise this PAYG modem will probably be our first choice.

Hi AD

The IKEA Spain website will give you full details of whats available in Spain,   Look at www.ikea.es.

Also available is a virtual copy of the Spanish catalogue, page by page, with the option of viewing it in English.  Obviously great demand!  See http://ikeaeu.ecweb.is/08/mesg/

Hope this helps
