Prices vary Dave but we bought tickets the week before and paid about 55 euros return, which was a discounted deal but these appear regularly I understand.

Hi Will - Tom C here. Steve and I just travelled to Barcelona last week and went from Alhama de Murcia direct to Barca without changing. But reckon the best way to Madrid will be change at Alicante and high speed from there to Madrid. We booked on line but only 2 weeks ahead. Can't imagine it will ever be fully booked up so long as book perhaps just that 60 days ahead that Renfe publish.
