Now that 4 manzanas of 88 houses have been released at once I have found that Mercers have suddenly shown little interest in sorting out any problems or trying to provide a decent level of service.  Admittedly they lost two experienced people from their Vejer office but I find it hard to believe they have only been able to recruit one part-time person who is obviously inundated with people either visiting the site or contacting the office for information.  There doesn't even appear to be an answerphone which is totally unacceptable.   My snagging list is very short and I'm basically happy with the standard of finish from the builder but I am not getting any replies from my e-mails to Susanna in Vejer and conversations with the Henley office are getting nowhere.  They tell you they will forward on the message but nothing happens.  All the way through I have found Mercers service to vary between very good and bad, and sometimes they have been extremely conservative and selective with the truth, but they seem to be showing a high level of disinterest now that they have got their money.

Am I just unlucky or are others having similar problems?

Last week Moneycorp quoted me 1.45 fixed for up to 12 monthlty payments, when the rate was around 1.51, for 550e.  Even with their £4 per transaction charge it still makes them cheaper than Hifx who always seem very low on regular payments but the amongst the best value on one-off transactions.

In November I made lump sum payments through Hifx but they took much longer than they should have done to send them across.  They were meant to have all been transferred by the 24th but after a lot of chasing the last one went on the 27th with the money needing to be in Spain on the 30th.  The excuse given was a new computer system.  The final payment thankfully arrived on the day of signing accompanied by a few more grey hairs.

I also investigated arranging monthly payments through Hifx and although they can fix the rate for a year they could only offer me around 1.35.  Moneycorp however gave me just under 1.43 which still works out cheaper than Hifx even allowing for their £4 per transfer charge.  As it only starts this month I can't give a recommendation yet on their service.
