Hi there,
I'm a big snowboarding fan and go quite a few times every year.
The best time of year is end of January going into February really. The best times is when it chucks it down with rain really. If it's bucketing down with rain on the coastal area's, then it should be bucketing down with snow on the mountains.
The best place to stay is in Granada really. The mountain itself is quite expensive and does not really have the amenities that Granada does. It's only a 20 minute drive from Granada to Sierra Nevada. You can ski during the day and then go out to shops and restaurants at night.
From Malaga should be around 2 hours really at a good pace and then 20 minutes to Sierra Nevda.
In regards to hotels. The internet is the best bet. Hotels.com and such.
