Can someone please point me in the right direction re Wealth Tax. Some people on our development have been down to the local town hall and have been given a piece of paper which tells them they are not liable to pay Wealth Tax. They have been here since 2007 and gained residency sometime during that period. today they have been told the Town Hall made a mistake and confused Wealth Tax with Community Tax and, indeed, it is due and must be paid by 31 December, failing which further steps may be taken which may include impounding your property. Fairly scary. In our case, we have been here since October 2006 living on a building site until mid 2007 ish. Our development has still not been formerly adopted by the Council so we are not yet paying Council Tax. We do not have residency as yet. Unfortunately, one of those things on our list of things to do! Can someone tell me, therefore, are we liable to pay Wealth Tax and is the scaremongering mentioned above correct? Any comments would be welcome.
Thanks.

We also got tickets and it was quite a good show, albeit they were half an hour late in going on, but it turns out there were quite a lot of people who didn't even pay to see the show. They went for a meal to the Italian, or Bamboo or even for a drink in the Irish bar, all within the confines of the secured area and, of course, once in there, they didn't leave, thus seeing the show for nowt! Not a fair system.

Hi Colin not sure what you mean by "rights". Apparently Telmicro were the supplier and Teleast used them. Teleast have now gone with another supplier who, they assured me, have all the necessary permissions. The 30e charge isn't just for the 10 extra channels. It's to re-tune the TV to the channels we had before plus the 10 extra. This is the 3rd call that we have had from them, I had a call on behalf of someone else and our Mark also got a call from them so I would think it is pretty kosher! Fingers crossed anyway.

I'vejust had a call from Teleast informing me of the upgrade to Sky Sports and Films Channels. Basically what she is saying (and I'll give her contact details below) Teleast are no longer with Telmicro because of what happened ie channels lost and are now with another company who are prepared to give us back all we had before plus 10 extra channels by way of apology for having been without favourite channels. the only charge is 30e call out for their engineers to come into our houses to re-programme our digi box. Cost is still 20e per month.
the girl's name is Stephanie at Customer Relations, Teleast. Tel No: 968 956 375. this is a dedicated line for upgrading our systems. She is very pleasant and very helpful and is at the office Monday to Friday 9-5. She can't give specific times when the engineers will be out because they are working flat out to get everyone back on.
Good news methinks.
