Hi again,

I think the painting idea is really good, not only would the old buildings and winding gear be good subjects, but the colours of the spoil heaps where the rain has erroded the landscapes could be quite something, particulaly with the right light and shadows. I,m sure you will see what I mean when you visit.

We also have visited the mines 3 times (last January 2013) but have not as yet seen all of the site.

We got a map from the tourist information office in the Porto, they have detailes of the official tours at 10 euros a head.

We have a book in our appartment with the history of the mines in one chapter, You will see from the differing colours of the spoil that lots of different things were mined there. They seem to be in their second heyday (1st Roman) in the mid 1850s when some 5000 menand boys were employed. Mazarron town is described as a den of Boarding Houses and Brothels ( a B&B town). There was also a railway which ran from the town to the port which carried cargo and passengers. As the mines ceased opperation a hot spring down one of the shafts was turned into a spar for the locals.

I have seen 3 shafts with the winding towers still in place. one which has wooden beams even has the two cages jammed in the top of the shaft.(should be visited with care as with most of the site).

I hope to see more of the site on our next visit in June, I feel sure you will find it interesting.

As early owners in Garden 12, Elizabeth and I often visited the then Sports Bar and have happy memories of the gatherings we had there.

We look forward to being there once again on our next visit starting 1st of December, but in the meantime wish you the very best of luck with your new venture.

We bought a Garmin Nuvi a year or so ago so it doen't have Condado and the new roads on it.

Has anyone out there done an upgrade yet?

If so does it have the latest details?

How much did it cost?

What is the proceedure for doing it?

About 2 years ago after completing on our 2-bed apartment in Garden 12, we accepted a quote from Gary at Polarair for one compressor supplying the lounge and another supplying the bedrooms (all Panasonic). They were quickly and cleanly fitted by Gary, Steve and Mark.

 

The bedroom units have worked perfectly on both cold and hot air settings but the lounge would work for about 5 days then go off for a few days before working once more. Gary tried to get things right but finally disappeared.

 

Steve and Mark at Apollo Air then came to our rescue. To cut a long story short they arranged for firstly the exterior circuit board to be replaced followed by the interior board and finally the compressor. When we last left all appeared to be working at last.

 

I have since heard that Steve has been in during our absence to check that it continues to work.

 

Mark has also fitted the surge protector that Gary supplied and was paid for.

 

Despite all my offers neither Steve nor Mark would take a penny for their work in rectifying the problems that Gary left and our thanks go to both of them.
