I think the question of Corvera airport is not WHEN it will open, but IF it will ever open. It is not the only airport that has been built here in Spain and not opened. Do your research thoroughly.

Before purchasing our own property we rented for 18 months or so.  We obtained our NIE numbers from the Spanish consulate in London before moving out to Spain and registered ourselves on the local padron as soon as we moved into our rented property (we were told you don't have to own a property to be on the padron but must register if you are living long term in Spain).  We bought our car from the Ford dealer opposite Dos Mares within 2 months of moving to Spain.  We didn't (and indeed couldn't) obtain Spanish Residency until we had lived here for 6 months so residency was not a requirement of the purchase.  At that time we still had our UK driving licences.

Hope this helps your renters.

It should be pointed out that most of those who chose not to proceed with their purchase at Corvera (many with very good reason - ie. that Calidona were not delivering what was promised) did so by forfeiting their sizeable deposits.  What happened to that money?  It should have gone a long way to paying the community charges for those properties now back on the market.  But dare one suggest that it may have disappeared along with Calidona when they "sold" the resort?

Admittedly a few were able to move their deposits to property on the sister development but only at Calidona's original off-plan rather than current market prices.

Other prospective buyers (those on phase 3) were, I believe, able to claim their deposits back because Calidona confirmed that these properties did not have licences and were not going to be built.

If Calidona had behaved honourably the money forfeited by "non-purchasers" should have gone a long way to keeping the resort going.
