We are just back from our house and have also just had the money debited from our account by Iberdrola - it is a connection charge.  We, too, paid the 300 euros to Taray although that was in November 2006.  I thought it was for electricity and water connection but our lawyer told us that the 300 euros was for water connection only.  There seems to be differing views about what the 300 euros was for.  We did try to speak to someone at Taray about this and a number of other things but the office was closed.  Our lawyer said that they should provide us with a bill for the (water) connection charge and the water used since we moved in (and refund any difference).  We'll give it a try although I'm not too hopeful.  The Spaniards definitely do things differently, but it is worth the hassle.  We love our house and I'm sure you will too.

We "bought" our house in November 2005, direct from Taray.  We hired a Spanish lawyer, who conducted all the searches for us.  We were not told about the flyover or about the warehouse which houses the local church's artefacts.  We were surprised not to be told about these things, but I think we need to keep things in perspective.  The flyover is a sensible improvement to the infrastructure of the town.  It is not going to be a really busy stretch of road since it is just bringing traffic into the village and it will be more convenient for our own access to our properties.  Compared to the situation of our house in Glasgow, our house in Balsicas is positively rural!
