Thread: Spanish Bank Pursuing UK and Irish Assets

--------------------------------------
28 Sep 2012 5:34 PM:

Hi all,

Like manyIi am strugging to repay my spanish mortgage which is now in negative equity for probably €50k.

As far as I understand i can't sell the property and continue paying the remaining mortgage i.e. for the negative equity portion - as to sell you need to full clear the mortgage. I could try and negotiate to go interest only repayments although I suspect this is just postponing the problem.

If I hand back the keys i believe the Spanish Bank can pursue me for assets at home (Ireland).

I'm just wondering what the reality is - how easy or difficult is this for a spanish bank to chase assets in UK or Ireland ? Will the bank likely cut its losses rather than spend more money chasing the remaining balance w.e. with a European Enforcement Order (EEO) to enforce a Spanish judgement ?

I've not been able to see the reality via any statustics but I have found legal firms advertising their services to chase up EEOs

Any guidance on the reality ?

Thanks

Hi all,

Has anybody heard of or dealt with Crystal rentals - based in Purto Banus, Marbella (see link above).

They offer guaranteed rentals but this is hard to comprehend in the current market ?

Any feedback appreciated

Hi Jayuser & all

I am in exactly the same situation as you.MRI are big on promises short on delivery.

MRI sold us a service i.e. rentals and completely failed to deliver. Not only that, in the meantime they lost our keys, don't answer the phone and refuse to refund money for furniture they did'nt deliver.

They are a sales operation and cannot deliver the follow up service they promise with aftersales & rentals. They are now even less able to deliver than before as their reputation speads and the downturn affects buyers. They have let go large amounts of staff and closed many offices.

They seem to be a company with little or no scruples. They have misled and cause massive financial damage to thousands of British and Irish buyers.Despite the founder being Irish, the Irish clients seem to be the worst victims. MRi have been careful to avoid targeting Spanish buyers however as the Spanish government would not tolerate it. This begs the question - why are the Irish and British governments allowing MRi to continue to con people.

I would suggest writing to your local politician, newspaper or anywhere else to get the message out about MRI or DCC and at least prevent other people from falling victim to them. I'm planning to set up an organised group to follow up on this in an organised way in a number of countries. Any participants or ideas to pursue this are welcom just pm me.

Hello all,

I am glad to say that myself and Antonio are now following up on my case. It looks like a combination of holidays and miscommunication conspired against us.
