A quick update re car insurance with Gold Car - previoulsy GC included bumps and scratches in the standard insurance that came automatically within the rental charge, so buying a UK policy to cover things not covered by the standard policy such as lost keys was a good idea. HOWEVER when I picked up my car today from Alicante GC told me that they have changed their standard cover and it no longer includes bumps and scratches.  As these are not normally covered by a UK CWD policy people may be exposed.  It means that checking the vehicle and making them document every bump and scratch before driving away is vital (the car I got was a wreck so this took a long time). They have also doubled the amount of deposit which needs to be left if their insurance is not being taken out, from 600 to 1200 euros.

Last year while on holiday on CDA I remember funds being raised for a voluntary medical emergency team made up of interssted residents.

A sad incident on one of the Jardines earlier today brought home the need for this kind of service.

Please can one of the CDA stalwarts let me know whether this ever got off the ground and if so how to we contact the team in an emergency.

Can you also let me know if any more funraising events are planned.

For those of you who dislike Goldcar, news from the business pages of El Pais...

Goldcar along with 16 other firms has been fined for operating a cartel and fixing car hire prices for several years. Goldcar got the biggest fine 15.5million euros, then Centauro 5.6m and Record 4.9m.

Sadly it does not look like any of the compensation will go to the poor consumers who they ripped off !!

If you don't mind a 45 min drive I would say go to Isla Plana or just passed there La Azohia. Isla Plana has a beach bar and a few cafes and there is a very nice restaurant at La Azohia. My tip would be to go late afternoon, go straight for a bite to eat then crash out on the beach until after dark. In high summer it's warm enough to go into the until late in the evening.

For directions - head towards Puerto de Mazarron and turn off the main road at the round about just before Lidl. Isla Plana is signposted from this roundabout. For La Azohia just carry on along the coast road until you run out of road.
