Hola Amigos -  I have just purchased a small apartment in Torrevieja and intend to spend time there during the low season.  I'd very much like to make contact with anyone of similar interests to me who might like to meet up from time to time for a coffee/glass of wine and some stimulating  conversation!  I am a retired lecturer in history but I am  interested in most things including languages  (French, Spanish and Russian), literature, politics,  theatre, music (singing and recorder playing),  TV, health,  theology, etc. A few contacts would make it easier to settle in and feel at home quickly and, of course, it would be splendid to be able to benefit from the experience of others who have a good working knowledge of how a Spanish town operates.    Thank you for reading this.

Hello All

I have been an EoS member for some time but have not signed on for quite a lomg time and cannot remember whether this is my first post or not!  Thank you for reading this anyway and I shall be grateful for any response.

Recently, I purchased a mobile home on a park inland from Malaga and was told at the time, that IBI was not levied on mobile homes as they were classed differently. Since then, I have received a letter from the park owner to the effect that we are now liable due to a legal decision.  As I understand it, the park owner will collect the tax and then remit it to the authorities.  Is there anyone else in this position?  It seems to me a rather odd and egregious decision considering that a mobile home is not freehold and is the subject of a licence to occupy and not  a lease or a title deed.  Having said that, might paying the IBI give the home owners a more secure position and greater recognition given that park owners currently have a great deal of control over disposal of the homes and can make arbitrary decisions without there being any apparent recourse to mediation?  Finally, ought the mobile home owner to be paying this tax directly to the authorities rather than via a third party?

Thank you

It is worth noting that Rudina is advertising Balcones apartments on a  'key-ready' site for  99k euros so you might have to  revise your selling price dramatically to  secure a sale!   Best of luck, anyway.

Re  Message from Swiftmaister:

According to information from residents of Balcones,  there does not seem to have been any construction work on Mirador for the last two months;  the only work in progress is on the Commercial Centre.

It may well be time to start showing some concern.  I have already been in touch with  my intermediaries (Martin Clews) and have  even suggested that the builder might offer  unsold apartments in Balcones to  Mirador purchasers on a quid pro quo basis thereby  providing him with  an income stream  and  also  enabling him to mothball the development for a time  and resume  and remarket  it at a more  propitious juncture  against the background of a more  lively and populated  Balcones.

I would suggest, perhaps, contacting your agents  to ask for an update and keep up some pressure.  I shall be in Spain from the end of this month and will try to ascertain as much information as possible.

Regards

Dear William

An interesting question. I was in Spain recently but was unable to visit  Iznalloz (or, more accurately, the weather on the coast was so agreeable I did not feel like contending with the icy blasts inland!).   I did enquire about progress and was assured by Andrew Segal of Martin Clews (the lead agent) that everything was going smoothly bar some delays caused by horrendous weather conditions especially torrential rain.  I shall be out there  for 2 to 3 months after Christmas so will certainly organise a foray to the development.  I think that we can only hope that Rudina,  because of its modest size and lack of desire to swallow up competitors on the basis of massive debt,  will survive the crisis.  Having vacillated for ten years as to whether to purchase in Spain and then having succumbed at the least propitious moment in recent history, I should take it ill if  the whole project were to collapse,  although if the bank guarantee proved to be effective, I might  be rather less distraught!  If I hear more I will contact you and would be grateful if you would do likewise.

Best wishes

Graham  (32)
