Pneumatic action, compressing air in cracks.
Abrasion, fragments scrape away the rock
Attrition, smashing fragments together which results in wearing down to sand and silt
Scour, removes loose material
Corrosion, salt's dissolve chemicals in rocks
We have frost but heat also expands.
A possible solution, improve drainage and plant in the Uk we use Rubus fruticosus.
