Hi all, We have lived here in Spain for a year and have recently (June) completed on our apartment in block 6. It took some weeks to prepare and we've had five weeks of rentals since we put it on with www.holidayrentals.co.uk property number 14258 on 7th August. Anyone hoping to make their fortune from rentals, take heed. Their are far more properties to rent than there are people wanting to rent. More supply than demand. Of course if you are clever with your advertising, take nice pictures and don't ask a fortune in rent, you will get the punters.

Our lawyer assures us that completing on our apartment was the correct thing to do. All the necessary licenses will be forthcoming.

As for taking Aifos to court for loss of rentals, I cannot see a favourable outcome. (It sounds even funnier in Spanish). However, if anyone has actually lost cash to people like Oceanview then take heart. We successfully threatened (through another litigator) to take a large firm of lawyers to court for losing out on a property purchase which they assured us was going ahead. We went to visit the property only to find that others had moved in. The lawyers settled out of court for all the monies paid to them and over 90% of the appreciation value! So, not all bad news. Incidentlly, I have a floor plan of block 6 second floor which I was given in 2001 which clearly shows that apartment J has three bedrooms and only ONE bathroom. 

Also, to clear up the question of geography, Miraflores and Riviera del Sol are two adjoining urbanisations of roughly equal size. However, I am assured by Oliver at Viva Estates that the name Riviera del Sol is also given to an area that includes both of them plus Calypso and Calahonda! And as if that were not enough Mijas Costa is the coastal area which extends from south of Calahonda to Fuengirola (and maybe even beyond)

Hi all,

My wife and I relocated to Spain nearly a year ago from Kent and we are as happy as larks! We, like most of you, paid a deposit on an apartment (ours is in Block 6) as long ago as December 1st 2001. I've read many of the messages posted on this website and although many of you have genuine complaints I have noticed that as more and more people complete and move in, the tone of the messages (with a few blatant exceptions) gets lighter. You have to admit that these apartments did not cost the earth, did they. There are many prettier developments along the coast but you get what you pay for and, in my case, this is perfectly true. My apartment is exactly what I expected - right size, correct amount of bathrooms and a fantastic view of Torrenueva to the sea! Maybe I'm just one of the lucky ones.

And things are improving all the time. A cleaner was around yesterday for the second time since early September, we now have rubbish bins outside the gates on the road and the pool is useable even though there is a notice saying no bathing (because we should have a lifeguard).

Once the commitee is up and running properly with some Brit input and some money things will improve even further. This isn't possible at the moment because so many are still to complete. (How can we vote on Satellite, for instance, when we don't know how many of different nationalities there are going to be in each block? Incidentally, that dish on top of Block 6 is mine. I've erected it temporarily until such time as we do get to decide what to do. You will all be pleased to know that all the wiring for sat tv throughout all the blocks is in place so it wont cost a fortune when the time comes).

Speaking of committees, I heard a rumour today that our president, Raphael (El Bandito) has resigned because someone threatened to kill him. Can anyone shed any light on that?

Now for some blatant self promotion. My wife and I can offer a range of services (Steady!). We are property managers here with some availability for new clients. I am a tradesman skilled in plumbing, heating and electrics. I can carry out wardrobe shelving, bath and shower screen fitting, lock changing and even furnish your whole apartment by arrangement. We can hold keys, carry out repairs (or get in the right person if it's something outside my scope) and  clean apartments between lets. I can supply references both here and in the UK.
