Hi everyone,

I am new to this Website, but I have a small problem relating to Spain, and I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions to offer.     It is not a particularly difficult problem.

My brother-in-law died earlier this year in U.K.      He left a Will in which he appointed me to be his Executor, so I have the job of collecting in all his assets, and paying out to his beneficiaries.

Many years ago he worked for a year or two in Spain.      He opened a Bank Account in Madrid, and had his wages and expenses etc. paid into it.      Then, when his contract in Spain was ended, he returned to U.K. to live.      At that time (pre Euro) the Exchange Control Regulations prevented him from bringing out of Spain all the money he had accumulated in his Bank Account, so he took out as much as he was able to, and left the rest.       From time to time he contacted his Bank about getting the rest of his money out, but there was always some reason why he couldn't.      Eventually, he gave up trying.

Now it is my turn to try!       I have managed (with great difficulty) to contact the Bank (which has been taken over twice in the meantime).      They have told me that I need to provide an "Inventory Document containing the account, with its official receipt stamping by Spanish Tax Office, to accredit the compliance with Spanish duty taxes".      I take this to be a document stating that his only asset in Spain was his Bank Account, containing "X" euros, and that the "official stamp" required is some kind of clearance from the Tax Office that no tax is due.

Am I correct in this assumption?      Does anyone know if there is a special form required?       And does anyone have the address of the Spanish Tax Office that I must apply to?       Any help will be greatly appreciated.

                                                                                   Brian.
